‘Counting On’ Fans Slam The Duggars for Sharing an Insensitive Picture of Joy-Anna
Counting On star Joy-Anna Duggar happily celebrated her birthday last week, yet her parents, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, are in the hot seat after joining in on the festivities. Fans blasted the couple for sharing a photo of Joy-Anna when she was pregnant with her second child, whom she miscarried this past summer. Many Counting On fans felt like the pic was insensitive – though Joy-Anna had a completely different reaction to the post.
Jim Bob and Michelle get slammed for posting a pregnant pic of Joy-Anna
The drama started after Jim Bob and Michelle shared a gallery of photos of Joy-Anna that were taken over the past year. The first pic in the lineup was snapped when Joy-Anna was still rocking her baby bump.
Joy-Anna and her husband, Austin Forsyth, announced their second pregnancy back in May. According to Pop Culture, the two confirmed the sad news that their daughter was stillborn in July and have been dealing with the heartbreak ever since.
The Counting On parents obviously meant well, but fans did not like how they shared a photo of a pregnant Joy-Anna. Some followers thought the image would bring back bad memories for Joy-Anna, while others thought it was completely insensitive.
There were even a few fans who were confused by the post and thought Jim Bob and Michelle were announcing that Joy-Anna was pregnant once again. We now know that isn’t the case as Joy-Anna and her husband are waiting a while before they try for baby number two.
‘Counting On’ fans bash Carlin Bates too
Jim Bob and Michelle were not the only ones who received backlash for sharing a throwback pic of Joy-Anna’s second pregnancy. Carlin Bates, who is good friends with Joy-Anna, also posted a pic of her baby bump.
The photo in question featured the Counting On star holding her growing baby bump. It also included a caption wishing Joy-Anna a happy 22nd birthday.
Just like Jim Bob and Michelle’s post, fans heavily criticized her for sharing what they believe is an insensitive photo.
“Incredibly insensitive photo choice, Carlin,” one fan wrote.
Some fans acknowledged that she probably meant well posting the photo in honor of Joy-Anna’s birthday. Even still, a lot of fans agreed that she should have gone with a different photo.
That said, there were some fans who argued that the moment was a great way to honor the memory of Joy-Anna’s daughter, who they named Annabell Elise – and Joy-Anna appeared to feel the same way.
Joy-Anna responds to pregnancy drama
Shortly after the pregnancy photos were posted, Joy-Anna took to social media to share her thoughts on what was going on. The Counting On star thanked her bestie for sharing the image and seemed to appreciate what her parents said as well.
“THANK YOU, CARLIN!!!! I love you more than I can express!!” she shared.
Joy-Anna then took things a step further by posting a photo of herself while she was in the middle of her second pregnancy. The picture featured all of her siblings that were pregnant this year and clearly remains a fond memory for her.
The reality star and her husband were expecting to give birth to their second child late this year. The couple found out about the stillborn while undergoing their 20-week check.
Joy-Anna Duggar opens up about miscarriage
In the weeks following the devastating news, Joy-Anna opened up about her miscarriage on social media. The Counting On star explained how she was leaning on friends and family for support and that she hoped her story would inspire other mothers who had experienced the same thing.
It has now been several months since the miscarriage and it appears as though Joy-Anna is doing her best to move forward. In a recent interview, she expressed her excitement about all of her siblings who are set to give birth in the coming months.
Joy-Anna and her husband, meanwhile, are proud parents to their son, Gideon Forsyth, who was welcomed into the world in 2018. They have not revealed when they will try to have another child, though they are eager to have more children in the future.
New episodes of Counting On air Tuesday nights on TLC.
