‘Counting On’: Jessa Duggar and Katy Perry Might Be Feuding Because of This Connection
We’ve been keeping up with the Duggar family for years, and Jessa Duggar has easily become a fan favorite. While we remember her back on 19 Kids and Counting as a teen taking care of her younger siblings, she’s grown up quite a bit over the years and even has a family of her own. Duggar and her husband, Ben Seewald, have three kids whom fans love keeping up with on social media. And while they don’t normally have any public spats with other celebrities, it seems many suspect Duggar and singer Katy Perry might not be getting along.
So, why are Duggar and Perry possibly at odds with each other? It all has to do with a recent lawsuit against Perry. Here’s what happened.
Kate Perry was just ordered to pay a hefty sum after a rapper sued her
Katy Perry has recently found herself in hot water with Christian rapper Marcus Gray, who goes by the name of Flame. The BBC notes according to lawyers representing Flame, Perry “copied an important part” of his song “Joyful Noise” and recreated it in her hit, “Dark Horse.” According to attorneys from Capitol Records, the song made $31 million for the record label in total and made a profit of $630,000. Flame’s attorney, Michael Kahn, told the court, “These defendants made millions and millions of dollars from their infringement of the plaintiffs’ song,” and claimed Flame should be awarded $20 million.
According to Perry, she never heard “Joyful Noise” and certainly didn’t copy it. But it seems she lost the battle anyway, as the publication notes she was ordered to pay Flame $550,000 of her earnings.
Jessa Duggar and husband Ben Seewald seem to be close with Flame
As for how Duggar’s involved, it seems she and husband Ben Seewald are close with Flame. Radar Online notes back in 2016, a clip shows Flame visiting Duggar and Seewald’s home — and Seewald even notes that he’s become quite close with Flame. As Seewald says in the clip, “I started listening to some of Flame’s music a little over a year ago. I really appreciated the content of his music. We actually became friends.”
As for how the relationship began between Seewald and Flame, Seewald goes on to explain that he, Duggar, and their oldest son all visited the rapper in St. Louis, Missouri, many years prior — and they developed such a good rapport that Flame felt close enough to the family to visit them in Arkansas. Even Flame’s wife, Crystal, paid the Seewalds a visit, and the couple got to experience life in the country thanks to Seewald and Duggar’s guidance.
Are Perry and Duggar feuding?
Since Duggar seems to be friends with Flame and Perry was just taken to court by the rapper, where does this leave Duggar and Perry? While we’re not sure they’ll ever be the best of friends, there’s no evidence they dislike each other, either. It seems Duggar and Perry probably don’t come into contact with one another as it is, so perhaps they’ll continue to keep their distance now that they have this connection.
Reddit users have also commented on the feud, and it seems they’d like to see either Duggar or Perry react to the alleged feud they may be having. “Taylor and Katy renewed their friendship… I want to see Jessa’s reaction to Katy,” one Reddit user said. And another commented, “I’d like to see Katy react to Jessa lol. I don’t see her pulling punches.”
So far, it doesn’t look like Perry or Duggar have addressed the situation, so perhaps they’ll never cross each other’s paths either way. And we know Duggar isn’t one to feud with other celebrities, too. Hopefully, everything’s good between them and the drama with Flame is something they both can put behind them.
