‘Counting On’: Jessa Duggar’s Husband Just Made it Clear He Doesn’t Want 19 Kids
Jessa Duggar comes from a huge family. Her parents, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, had 19 kids (they also adopted a relative a few years back, giving them 20 children total). Now, Duggar and her husband, Ben Seewald, live on their own, and Seewald just hinted that he doesn’t see the same massive family in his and Duggar’s future — at least not without some changes.
Duggar and Seewald have had three kids in five years
Duggar was the third member of her family to tie the knot, behind older siblings Jill and Josh Duggar. She married Seewald in 2014 after they courted for nearly a year — one of the longest Duggar courtships we’ve seen. Since the couple’s wedding, they’ve welcomed three little ones: Spurgeon, Henry, and Ivy Jane. It’s not uncommon for the Duggars to have three children in five years, since they were raised among so many siblings. But Seewald seemed to make it clear that 19 kids definitely aren’t in his future.
Duggar has made comments in the past that she wants a large family
Duggar is the third daughter in the family, and she’s the fourth oldest of all the kids. Growing up, she was homeschooled by her mother, and as she got older, she helped out by homeschooling her younger siblings. Duggar said in the past that she was hoping to have as many kids as her mom someday, but she made it clear she wanted to adopt a few children as well. However, now that she’s a mother to three kids under four, those thoughts about raising so many little ones might have changed.
Seewald just said having 19 kids in their home would be impossible
On a recent episode of Counting On, Seewald made it clear that as long as they’re living in their current home, they won’t be having 19 kids. “Imagine living in our house, with the size it is, with 19 kids?” he said. “The bathroom would be in constant use; you’d have to start maybe two days out just to get everybody showered for church on Sunday.” Duggar thought the comment was funny, but she didn’t say whether she agreed with Seewald’s thoughts. The two have been on a roll with having kids, so it wouldn’t surprise us if they decide to have at least a few more.
The couple will likely have a big family — but will need a bigger home
Duggar and Seewald seem to love children, so it’s likely that they’ll have a large family. However, based on what Seewald said, he definitely isn’t trying to have 19 kids. Plus, the two just added a new deck to their home, so it doesn’t look like they’ll be relocating any time soon. If that’s the case, there’s no way they’ll have a family as large as the Duggars. Anything is possible, though — they might end up making enough money from the show to build a home as large as Michelle and Jim Bob’s 7,000 square-foot country house.
