We’ve been keeping up with the Duggar family for years, and it’s hard to believe a few of our favorites are well into their 20s with spouses and children of their own. And while fans adore Jinger, Jessa, and Jana, one of the most interesting members of the family is Jill Duggar. While Jill is soft-spoken and sweet, she’s no longer featured on Counting On due to her controversial husband, Derick Dillard. After a slew of transphobic and homophobic tweets, he had himself and Jill removed from all TLC programming.
Just because they’re off our TVs doesn’t mean they’re gone completely, however. Jill and her husband are quite active on Instagram — and after one of Jill’s followers criticized her for a post, Dillard came to her aid. Oddly enough, his comment may have alluded that there’s a lot we still don’t know about the Duggars. Here’s what he said.
Derick Dillard is one of the most controversial Duggar in-laws
Whether you love him or hate him, there’s no doubt Derick Dillard is one of the most talked-about members of the family. As stated before, he was removed from Counting On due to his unsavory Twitter commentary about TLC co-star and trans woman Jazz Jennings. Since then, fans have been quite curious regarding where he stands with the rest of the Duggar family, too. An insider allegedly told Radar Online that Dillard’s controversies “caused the family bad press,” which also put him at odds with Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar.
There’s also been talk amongst fans regarding Dillard’s standing with the Duggars now. While the Twitter controversy has certainly blown over, Dillard seems to be absent from most, if not all, Duggar family events. As one Reddit user theorized, “Jim bob and Derrick are on the outs. So sad for Jill this keeps her out of the family events and she is isolated and alone with just the boys [sic].”
He’s alluded in the past that there’s a lot of information fans don’t know
We’re not sure where Dillard and the Duggars stand now, but it’s clear he knows them quite well. We can’t forget that Jim Bob was the first to introduce Jill to her now-husband, so Dillard’s certainly gotten to know the family quite well over the years. And while we’re not quite sure if Dillard knows every deep, dark, Duggar secret the family keeps quiet, he has alluded in the past that fans don’t really know the half of what goes on behind closed doors.
Back in March 2018, fans asked Dillard plenty of questions about why he’s no longer on Counting On — and he posted a tweet about potentially writing a tell-all book. “Forget it. Im not going to answer all your questions on Twitter,” he tweeted. “We should just write a book to set the record straight. The point is for ppl not to assume things, like compensation or what we did or didn’t have a choice in, so they don’t make careless judgements [sic].” So far, he hasn’t published a book — but fans wonder what he would discuss if he did.
Dillard just left a very telling comment on Instagram
It seems Dillard may have even more private information he’s not willing to share with the world. Jill recently posted a photo to her Instagram celebrating women’s suffrage — and fans took to the comments in droves. “I had to giggle. The ladies in your family have no rights. The men control you. I do love your family and show but come on!!” one of her followers wrote.
To that, Jill commented back, “You’re mistaken.” And Dillard also added his own comment. “If you only know our family from a semi-scripted show then you are either assuming things that aren’t there, or believe that all you see is all there is. If Jill felt the Lord leading her to run for governor, I would not only vote for her, but support her in every way a spouse can,” he wrote.
It’s nice that Dillard seems to encourage Jill, but we’re all left wondering what we don’t know about the Duggar family after this comment. Perhaps with enough encouragement, Dillard will share all of his thoughts with us one day.
