‘Counting On’: Josiah Duggar’s Wife, Lauren, Went Through Her Second Pregnancy With Total Fear

We’ve been keeping up with the Duggars for over a decade thanks to Jim Bob and Michelle introducing the world to their 19 children on TLC. And now, it’s their adult kids who are taking over the spotlight with Counting On. While we’ve been keeping up with Jessa, Jinger, and Joy-Anna for quite some time, some of the adult men and their wives are garnering plenty of attention, too. And we’ve been hearing a lot about Josiah Duggar and his wife, Lauren, more recently.

Josiah and Lauren brought a little girl into the world in November 2019. But before that, Lauren miscarried during her first pregnancy — and she’s talked about the effects it had. Here’s what she said about how losing her first baby made her feel fearful of losing her second.

Josiah Duggar’s wife, Lauren, miscarried their first child

A number of Duggars have opened up about their miscarriages in the past, and Josiah’s wife, Lauren, has also talked about how her personal loss greatly affected her. E! News reports Lauren said she miscarried her first pregnancy back in October 2018, and we’ve since seen her talk about the loss on Counting On and on her Instagram since.

“Lauren and I were actually preparing for a trip to go to a friend’s wedding over the weekend. She started feeling really sick and started noticing some different things,” Josiah said in a clip of the show.

Lauren also noted that she wasn’t feeling well that day and thought it was just a reaction to something she ate. “It was late at night and I went to the restroom, and right there was the baby. Gone. I couldn’t believe it, and I was hoping it wasn’t true,” she said.

Since then, Lauren has opened up more about losing the baby. “Losing a little life at any stage is heartbreaking and devastating and should not go unnoticed,” she captioned an Instagram post of clothing meant for her lost baby. “For all you mamas, yes, even you mamas who’s arms have never had the chance to hold your babies-you’re a Mama! Remember, that you are loved.”

Lauren gave birth to a baby girl on Nov. 8, 2019

Despite the grief of the past, Lauren and Josiah brought new life into the world. Lauren gave birth to a baby girl on Nov. 8, 2019. “After a long and difficult labor, our girl arrived,” the couple wrote to USA Today. “When we finally got to see and hold our precious Bella Milagro all the pain instantly went away. We can’t believe she is ours — she is so perfect!”

While the couple doesn’t post too often to their Instagram, we’re already getting sweet snapshots of Bella. Josiah added a photo of Lauren holding their baby while going for a walk outside. “With the weather in the low 60s today, it was the perfect time to take a stroll downtown with my girls,” he captioned the post. And of course, fans adore how Josiah captured the sweet moment.

She admits she thought she’d lose the second baby

Josiah and Lauren are over the moon to have a baby in their arms, but Lauren admitted that she was incredibly fearful when pregnant with Bella. In Touch Weekly reports Lauren talked to the Counting On cameras about her worst nightmares.

“The beginning of this pregnancy was quite hard. I spotted for a month. And my progesterone levels dropped very, very low. Progesterone helps your body from going into labor too early,” Lauren explained to the cameras. “So I was taking a lot of progesterone and my levels were still dropping. So we were thinking that we’d lose this one.”

She then admitted that she was expecting the worst with the second pregnancy, too. “Like, ‘Is this baby gonna live?’ … Every doctor’s visit, you always expect the worst because you don’t wanna put your hopes up and then they crash,” she added.

Thankfully, we know Bella, Lauren, and Josiah are all doing great. And we’re hoping Lauren can breathe easier now knowing she gave birth to a healthy baby girl!
