‘Counting On’: The Duggar Family Scandals, Tell-Alls and Federal Investigations
The Duggar family works pretty hard to depict a wholesome family life. While TLC cameras have managed to capture a plethora of sweet moments from the supersized clan, many followers have long believed there was something more sinister brewing just under the surface of the family’s glossy façade. They weren’t wrong. The Duggar family has weathered several scandals, and it looks like a few more are currently in the works. Do you recall all of the times that the Duggar family’s media empire appeared to be in jeopardy?
The Josh Duggar scandals
Josh Duggar, the oldest of Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar’s children, has brought a fair amount of embarrassment into the family. First, it was revealed that Josh molested several of his siblings, along with a family friend when he was a teenager. To deal with his apparent issues, Jim Bob and Michelle reportedly decided to marry him off. While Josh put on a happy face when he walked down the aisle, it would seem as though the now 31-year-old was nowhere near ready to settle down. He was outed as a serial cheater, and while he claims to have corrected his adulterous behavior, many followers believe he’s still up to his old tricks.
Either way, his wife has decided to stick it out with him. The couple just welcomed their sixth child together. Maryella was born on Nov. 27 and is the third child welcomed by the couple since the 2015 scandals sent them packing up with Washington D.C. home. Josh and Anna hightailing it back to the family compound in Arkansas, and still reside on the property.
Josh’s poor behavior cost the family their original show, 19 Kids and Counting, and it looks like he might undo the family’s reboot series, Counting On. A federal investigation is looming over one of the Duggar family businesses. While the Department of Homeland Security will not comment on the nature of their investigation, Reddit sleuths claim it is directly tied to Josh’s car lot. The car lot was at the center of trouble in Arkansas last year when it was discovered he was operating the business illegally. The lot was shuttered after federal agents allegedly raided the property.
Michelle Duggar reportedly has two faces
Michelle comes off sickeningly sweet on television, but many followers believe it’s all an act. The mother of 19 children reportedly has a hard time keeping sweet when the cameras stop rolling. Her antics are said to be pretty intense, and her real voice is nothing like the high-pitched one she uses for her TV persona. Her singsongy cadence is apparently an act, too.
Derick Dillard, the husband of Jill Duggar, captured a video of Michelle lambasting one of her children back in 2018. Derick has since removed the Livestream, but the damage has been done. The majority of followers who saw the video before it was jettisoned from social media note that Michelle is aggressive, loud, and appears to be verbally abusive to one of the younger Duggar girls. What was more troubling was how quickly she switched personas when she figured out that Derick was filming.
It is also rumored that Michelle had a staff member fired early into the run of 19 Kids and Counting. While the staff was reportedly told to avoid speaking about anything “worldly” in front of the family, word allegedly got out that a member of the camera crew was gay. The Duggar family have incredibly homophobic views and apparently wouldn’t stand for a gay crew member in their home. Michelle allegedly had the staff member booted from filming. Rumor has it that he was placed on another project, according to The Hollywood Gossip.
The Duggar family have more than a federal investigation to worry about
While the Duggar family has a federal investigation looming over their heads, their attention is currently being pulled in another direction. One of their own family members has gone rogue. Derick’s marriage to Jill appeared to be arranged by Jim Bob, but now, Derick is taking aim at the supersized family and is apparently planning to write a book.
Derick and Jill have been suspiciously absent from Duggar family functions, and the father of two and law student has been publicly critical of the family and their employer, TLC, for months. Now he has admitted that he’s planning a book and is already in the process of writing it. If he’s got dirt on the famous family, which he most likely does, it will allegedly be contained inside this yet-to-be-published memoir. There is no word on whether he has a publisher at the moment, so the book may never see the light of day. Either way, it’s got to be nerve-wracking for a family that clearly has a lot to hide.
