When Is The ‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’ Season Finale?
The CW musical dramedy series Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Season 4 finale is almost here. After years of watching Rebecca Bunch and her friends in West Covina, it’s time to say goodbye. So when is the Crazy Ex-Girlfriend season finale? Here’s what we know about what’s to come.
Who is the star of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend?
Rebecca Bunch is a lawyer from New York who moves to Southern California after running into her ex-boyfriend, Josh Chan. But Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is a lot more than what it sounds like on the surface, addressing serious topics like mental illness, women’s health, sexuality, and dealing with toxic family members. Bunch is portrayed by the show’s co-creator, Rachel Bloom.
The show addresses mental illness with musical numbers
The word “crazy” in the title is meant to point out how men often refer to their exes, while also highlighting the very real mental illness that Rebecca struggles with throughout the series. This heightened reality in which the show takes place also features musical numbers of every genre, from a Lady Sovereign-style rap to a Bruce Springsteen rock number (in the same episode, no less).
In just the last couple of episodes, Rebecca, who embraced therapy last season, has come around to the idea of taking medication for her Borderline Personality Disorder. This is a show that’s really talking about mental illness, but in a completely unique way.
This is the last season of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
Sadly, the Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Season 4 finale will also be the series finale of the show. When the renewal announcement came in 2018, Bloom and co-creator Aline Brosh McKenna confirmed that they had always planned to have the series end after four (or five) seasons. Bloom told Vanity Fair, “This is about a young woman in a very specific time in her life, going through a crisis. And that just doesn’t sustain itself for nine seasons. “
And there’s more bad news for fans of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. With just five episodes remaining, the show has gone on hiatus for a month. Episode 14 will air on March 15, 2019.
Will the Crazy Ex-Girlfriend season finale will be a live musical?
Episode 18 will be the series finale, but there’s one more surprise. A special concert event, “Yes It’s Really Us Singing: The Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’ Concert Special!” will air immediately following the April 5, 2019 episode. Though it is being advertised similar to a live event, the special is actually going to be pre-recorded in March, according to Bloom herself. It will feature the cast singing many of the songs from the show that fans grew to love over the years.
What will Rachel Bloom do next?
As Crazy Ex-Girlfriend wraps up, Bloom has started to try out new things. In 2018 alone she appeared in six other TV shows, two of which were voice roles for animated series. Voice acting seems to be a focal point for Bloom, who has two films on the horizon, The Angry Birds Movie 2 and Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Her movie career kicked off last year with the comedy Most Likely to Murder and will continue with Seth Green’s Changeland, which does not yet have a release date.
