Creators of ‘Jurassic World 3’ Dropped a Surprise Short Film and Fans Are Losing Their Minds

If you’re awaiting the 2021 release of Jurassic World 3, your day is about to get a whole lot better. Creators of the franchise dropped an early gift and terrified fans everywhere are weighing in.

How ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ Sets Up Another Installment

'Jurassic World 3' won't be out until 2021. The surprise short film that just dropped will leave you terrified in the best way.

Jurassic Park: The Lost World portrayed a terrifying new world, and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom did the same. The movie ended with a Jurassic World 3 setup in place.

To save caged dinosaurs from a deadly gas, a girl named Maisie (a clone, just like the dinosaurs) sets them free. Final scenes show dinosaurs in the world, roaming free. Unless you like the thought of spotting a T-Rex in your backyard, the next movie will be unsettling.

Following the release, Dr. Ian Malcom (Jeff Goldblum) tells the senate in an eerie foreshadowing,” humans and dinosaurs are now gonna be forced to co-exist.” Thus, the new short film released today, Battle at Big Rock, was born.

The clip follows a family of five who are camping at Big Rock National Park. The events take place one year since the dinosaurs began to “co-exist.” What begins as an awe-inspiring moment with a Nasutoceratops and its baby, ends in terror. An Allosaurus attacks, and eventually turns on the family.

I won’t reveal what happens to the family (you’ll have to watch the clip), but creators helped bridge the gap between the last movie and the next.

When you think the short is over, credits reveal the frightening interactions around the world. Wedding doves are taken mid-air by pterodactyls, a young girl chased by Compys, and a car careens off a cliff to avoid the tail of another giant crossing the road.

‘Battle at Big Rock’ reveals a new normal

In a world overrun by dinosaurs, Jurassic World 3 will, no doubt, show the realities of “scientists playing God.” The movie, slated for a June 2021 release, stars Chris Pratt (as Owen Grady) and Bryce Dallas Howard (as Claire Dearing).

In a 2018 interview with Entertainment Weekly, director Colin Trevorrow said, “there’s other characters who we’ll meet in Fallen Kingdom you’ll realize are major characters.”

If you’re wondering how Jurassic World 3 will stack up, Trevorrow said it’ll resemble the tone of Steven Spielberg’s 1993 original. “If I could contextualize each film, I would say Jurassic World was an action-adventure, Fallen Kingdom is kind of a horror suspense film, and Jurassic World 3 will be a science thriller in the same way that Jurassic Park was.”

What do fans think of ‘Battle at Big Rock’?

Battle at Big Rock hasn’t been online long, and fans already have major opinions. In the world of all things Jurassic, there is no in-between. You either love the cinematic effects, or you don’t. So far, the short film is getting mostly accolades.

One user says on Twitter, “if this is a glimpse of what we can expect for #JurassicWorld 3, I am 100% behind it.” Another user says, “gonna watch this short again later, it’s just so epic!” And, to sum up, the new short film is going to scare the pants off you. An additional user simply says, “Oh. My. DAMN.”

Whether you’re a fan of the franchise or not, Battle at Big Rock is an anxiety-inducing ride. If those eight minutes are any indicator as to what Jurassic World 3 will include, the world isn’t ready. In the words of Ray Arnold (Samuel L. Jackson), “hold onto your butts.”
