‘Criminal Minds’: Fans React to That Explosive JJ and Reid Situation
Criminal Minds is almost over and the final season will premiere in January. There are still so many unanswered questions and things that still need to be concluded before it’s all really over for fans. One major point is the situation surrounding Jennifer “JJ” Jareau’s (A.J. Cook) confession to Dr. Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler). Read on to learn how fans have really been reacting.
The season 14 finale was jaw-dropping
If you’re caught up with Criminal Minds, then you know what we mean when we say it was an explosive situation. JJ revealed some pretty heavy stuff to her longtime best friend and co-worker Reid. They were being held at gunpoint and JJ had to reveal a secret that she had never said out loud before. No one really expected her to reveal what she did.
“Spence, um, I’ve always loved you. And I was just too scared to say it before. And now things are just really too complicated to say now,” JJ said. “I’m sorry, but you should know.”
The situation is more than a little awkward and had a mixed set of reactions from fans, although it seems to be overwhelmingly negative for the most part. But JJ and Reid have always had a close relationship, so it isn’t too hard to imagine that something like this might happen eventually.
Fans react to the Jeid situation
Reddit users have a lot of feelings about the situation and most didn’t appreciate the unnecessary drama. Considering JJ is married with a family, it’s hard for people to get on board for it all. Jeid might already be done before it even really begins.
“I am still in season 4 so it’s shocking to know why JJ is being paired with Reid. I’ mean she went out with him and was spending time with him and despite that she hooked up with Will. It indicates that there is no genuine affection on her part. She choose someone else over Reid,” a Reddit user noted. “Reid deserves so much better than being an ‘Option’ for JJ.”
Some think it seems rather ‘forced’
“Just seems painfully forced… BUT will say they seemed to be leading into it this season more so than previous seasons,” another user wrote. “I did love the dynamic of the friends concept, but now i want to see how the writers justify things. I am thinking they find a way for the husband to get offed.”
“I was so angry at this revelation, I don’t see what it’s supposed to add to the show that announced season 15 would be the final season,” another Reddit user wrote. “If JJ and Reid were meant to be (which they’re not), they could have actually followed through with it 14 years ago, now it’s just pointless and dumb and nobody wants it.”
“I say that at this point it’s all just unnecessary drama with what could be a rushed resolution what with only 10 episodes left,” another user said. “They made it to 14 successful seasons without having to resort to gimmicky storylines like unrequited love and forced confessions of love.”
Some fans just downright ‘hate it’
“I hate it. It makes no sense and is just created for drama,” someone else said. “He did have a crush on her in the beginning but she never returned the feelings, she only ever saw him as a friend/little brother figure, and eventually his feelings went away too.”
“Absolutely freaking hate it. Completely destroys the credibility of the characters,” another Reddit user wrote.
“Pointless, stupid and annoying storyline. I preferred the show when they didn’t forcefeed the personal lives of the characters to us anyway,” another user said.
Some people did enjoy the storyline, so it wasn’t all lost on audiences. “Loved it, wanted more! <3,” a Reddit user said. Opinions aside, fans will get to see how it all plays out in season 15 which premieres on Wednesday, January 8, 2020, at 9 p.m. E.S.T.
