The final season of Criminal Minds kicked off with a bang and things are looking up for season 15. Everyone was wondering how things would be addressed between Jennifer “JJ” Jareau (A.J. Cook) and Dr. Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) after that shocking season 14 confession. Read on to learn what fans are saying about how things were handled. There are spoilers ahead for season 15 of Criminal Minds.
Things needed to be addressed between JJ and Reid
JJ and Reid definitely had some unfinished business going into the final season. In the season 14 finale, fans will recall that JJ revealed that she’s always loved Reid while they were both held at gunpoint. Viewers have been eagerly waiting to see how things were going to play out between them. There was initially a lot of unhappy fans in regards to the possibility of JJ and Reid being anything other than friends.
JJ and Reid finally talk
The BAU agents search for Everett Lynch (Michael Mosley), aka the Chameleon to start things off. Lynch breaks his daughter out of prison and they encounter JJ in a parking garage. Lynch entices his daughter to shoot JJ and they leave her there. But luckily, Reid finds JJ just in time and gets her to a hospital. The ordeal gives them time to reconnect and it puts things in perspective. Although JJ was being honest about her feelings for Reid, she isn’t about to leave Will (Josh Stewart) for him in the end.
Fans react to how the JJ and Reid situation was handled
Fans seem to be pretty happy with the way things were handled overall when it comes to Jeid. It needed to be addressed and they handled it well without grazing over a complex issue.
“The new episode was clearly going to handle the JJ/Reid situation and I wasn’t sure how they were going to go about it but I’m happy with how it turned out,” a Reddit user wrote. “I honestly never believed they were going to make them a real couple, so I knew something else would happen and I’m glad with how they handled it.”
JJ owned up and clearly felt accountable for revealing her feelings to Reid after keeping silent for so long. “I thought they handled it well on JJ’s part,” another user expressed. “She held herself accountable for making things awkward between them because of her confession. She owned up to her feelings by telling him that he was her first love.”
Not everyone is convinced about things that were said
Some fans didn’t necessarily go for the whole Reid was JJ’s first love thing. “Spencer being her first love is crap. She never loved him like that. Her high school boyfriend would have been her first love,” a Reddit user explained. “Maybe college bf. If she had been in love with Spencer she would have treated their first season date like a real date. She didn’t.”
Some fans really wanted JJ and Reid to get together. “I’m in the Jeid fan base and I feel pretty okay with how it turned out,” another user said. “Once I accepted that they weren’t going to get them together solidly (even though I do still want that more than anything), it became a question of degrees and to me, they did a pretty deft job of handling the balance between these very complicated emotions.”
The situation has finally been addressed and now fans can move on from the possibility of Jeid before the end of Criminal Minds.
