Critics Slam Kanye West’s Decision to Run for President in 2020, Claim It’s a Stunt
Kanye West announced he’s running for president in the 2020 election and many of his fans and critics think it’s a stunt. Will his announcement become a reality? Theories are swirling as well as concerns that votes for West would pull votes from Joe Biden.
West announces he’s running for president
West took to Twitter on July 4 to make his big announcement, tweeting, “We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States! #2020VISION.”
Among the excitement and confusion there was also a lot of concern. “He is pro-Trump, so the intentions are quite obvious…,” one Twitter user pointed out.
In response to Kim Kardashian West’s supportive American flag tweet of her husband’s announcement, actor Eric Balfour tweeted: “Do you guys think this is all a joke? That potentially pulling votes away from the only nominee who can defeat Donald Trump is cute or funny? This is the height of privilege, ultimately it won’t hurt you, you’re wealthy enough to survive 4 more years of Trump! Come the f*ck on!”
Fans and critics think something’s fishy
On Reddit, a discussion about West’s announcement to run for president took off and most people weren’t impressed with what appears to be a stunt to help Trump in the election.
“He’s pulling this stunt to pull the minorities vote from Democrats to help Trump,” one Redditor noted.
Many others voiced their concerns, as one Reddit user shared, “This is peoples’ livelihoods, this honestly isn’t funny and I’ve lost even more respect for him. His antics and stunts he tries to pull are gross.”
Another critic agreed that this announcement is a stunt, stating, “Trump wants Kanye to split the votes so Biden loses. I’m so disgusted! This is not a joke.”
“Oh my gosh, I never thought of the splitting votes thing, but it has to be true,” one Redditor responded. “That’s actually very smart on Trump’s part. I feel like you opened my third eye today.”
Another Redditor admitted, “I used to be the biggest Kanye fan. I’m just so disgusted in him now.”
‘Stay focused’ on this election
While theories about West’s announcement swirled, many people pointed out that this is an important election and staying focused is so necessary.
“This has to be one of the most despicable things they have ever done,” a Redditor said of West’s announcement, adding, “And honestly it makes me sick to my stomach.”
They continued, “Trump has made it clear he will do quite literally anything to remain in power and this seems like just the thing his team would dredge up… This election is the most important one of our lives. Biden certainly was not my first choice but I will be happily voting for him the second I get my ballot. Trump has committed so many atrocities against our country and has fueled hatred and divide. If this is in fact something he planned with Trump then he lost whatever shred of respect I have left for him…”
On Twitter, one user pointed out: “Last known, Kanye West is an avid Trump supporter. A candidacy steering potential Biden votes is certainly one way to increase chances of a Trump win. The best interest of a nation is at stake. Stay focused.”
