‘The Crown’ Season 3: Why Fans Can’t Get Enough of the Newest Episodes
Season 3 of The Crown is here and it’s safe to say people are loving it.
Netflix released the latest installment of its original series about the reign of Queen Elizabeth II just yesterday on Nov. 17, 2019. While the British royal family has known about the storylines in Season 3 — they get spoilers ahead of each season — fans of the series are just now diving in.
In the mere hours since the episodes have become available to stream, we’ve realized many, many fans of the show spent their Sundays watching all 10 episodes featuring Olivia Colman as the leader of the British monarchy. Learn what trick the Oscar-winning actress used to hide her emotions while playing Queen Elizabeth II.
And, to be honest, we’re not surprised because the first two seasons were equally as binge-worthy. Ahead, learn what viewers had to say about the series and which episode they thought stood out among the rest. Warning: spoiler alerts ahead.
‘Aberfan episode is a masterpiece’
One of the episodes fans can’t stop raving about is Season 3, Ep. 3: “Aberfan.” Without giving away too many details, the episode focused on a tragic accident and how Queen Elizabeth II handled it.
Usually stoic, the leader of the British monarchy cried in the aftermath of the terrible event that took the lives of both children and adults. “Give this tear an Emmy” one person tweeted including a screenshot of Queen Elizabeth II crying, according to Glamour.

While some called the episode hard to watch, it seemed most everyone could agree that Colman gave an excellent performance. Another reckoned the episode “will win all kinds of awards.”
‘Seamless’ transition for cast
We, like fans of The Crown, were a bit apprehensive about letting go of Claire Foy and the rest of the original cast when Season 3 came along but performances by the actors who’ve taken over have proven to be “seamless.”
“THAT transition from Claire Foy to Olivia Colman… seamless,” Elliot Gonzalez, blogger and founder of I Talk Telly, tweeted. “Could not have been handled any better. As much as I miss Foy, Colman is (predictably) outstanding in the role.”
The same can be said for Princess Margaret portrayed by Helena Bonham Carter who took over from Vanessa Kirby. Part of her research for the role, the actress met with a psychic to ask the late royal for her blessing. One eagle-eyed viewer noted the similar camera angle of Princess Margaret answering the phone in bed, a callback to Kirby’s earlier performance.
Others praised Tobias Menzies for his performance as Prince Philip.

Is this the best season?
Some fans called Season 3 the best season of The Crown so far. One person tweeted that the current season didn’t “miss a beat … brilliantly continuing Elizabeth’s story.”
“Throw all the awards at #TheCrownSeason3. Incredible actors, beautifully written, amazing sets. It’s flawless,” another viewer wrote.
“On the fourth episode of #TheCrownSeason3, and it’s been breathtaking so far. The sharpest dialogue writing, and beautiful frames. Briefly forgot how enchanting a world Peter Morgan created in the first two seasons. At this rate, the current one will be the best of the lot,” Aniruddha Guha, screenwriter and TV columnist tweeted.
We wouldn’t be surprised if the show receives more awards — it’s already won Golden Globes, Emmys, and more — and continues to do so with Season 4 and the introduction of Emma Corrin as Princess Diana.
