Ashley and Kate Wallis ‘Cruel Summer’ recap

The stepsister relationship between Ashley and Kate Wallis is an intriguing part of Cruel Summer’s timeline. The two girls also switch roles throughout the three summers of 1993, 1994, and 1995.

In 1993, Kate desperately wanted to have a close relationship with Ashley. However, Ashley tells Kate she wants nothing to do with her. The roles reversed in 1994. Ashley tried very hard to be there for Kate after her kidnapping. In 1995, viewers find out that Ashley secretly bonded with Kate through a chat room. It looks like Kate offers a lot of information to this anonymous user, so Ashley likely knows more than anyone else about Kate’s abduction.

Cruel Summer airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. EST on Freeform and the next day on Hulu.
