Johnson’s fans were freaking out about her tooth gap

The actress’ fans noticed something different about Johnson’s smile recently — gone was the small gap between her front two teeth that were part of her usual look.

The internet exploded with headlines and tweets mourning the loss of the gap as people said RIP to her cute mouth feature.

The actress explained how the gap change happened

During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the host had to dig into what happened with Johnson’s iconic tooth gap and she had all the details.

The change wasn’t intentional at all, she explained, as she had worn a permanent retainer behind her teeth for some time, but had it removed after experiencing some pain in her neck.

She remarked that all the headlines about her teeth were “really stressing me out,” noting, “I was having a lot of neck problems recently, so my orthodontist, she decided that it would be a good idea to take [the retainer] off and see if my jaw expanded.”

The retainer removal helped but there was some sad fallout, as she noted: “It helped me and my gap closed by itself.”

Fallon seemed a bit confused and she explained, “As you grow as a human being, your skull expands and your jaw and your teeth move. Your teeth don’t look like they did when you were a baby.”

She’s sad about the change too

It’s not just her fans that are sad to see the gap go, as the actress shared, “I’m sad about my gap tooth too… So, I’d really appreciate some privacy in this time.”

She also faces a new dilemma that never impacted her before, as Johnson noted: “I had to deal with a whole new world of problems, getting food stuck in my tooth… because before it would just slide right through.”

Johnson did have a little bit of hope that the gap is “going to come back,” telling Fallon, “The world of dentistry is so advanced.”

Johnson admitted she impersonated a celebrity for dinner reservations

During the interview, Fallon asked about Johnson using a celebrity name to get dinner reservations and she confessed. The actress used to make reservations under George Clooney’s name!

Fallon asked: “I heard this rumor that you used to make reservations at a restaurant under a famous person’s name. You used to call up and say you have a table for George Clooney… Why?”

The answer was simple enough, as she noted: “Because I wanted to go to the good restaurants.” She added: “It works every time. Try it.” She’d simply show up at the restaurant and tell the staff, “he’s going to join us later.”

She did eventually meet Clooney and he was pretty cool with her scam, as she recalled: “I was like ‘Hi, I’m Dakota’ and he was like ‘Oh I’ve heard of you. I know what you do. You call and you use my name… It’s okay.'”
