‘Dance Moms’: Fans Are Loving This Instagram Tribute Maddie Ziegler Made for Kenzie Ziegler’s Birthday

No one expected Abby Lee Miller to return to reality TV after her harrowing ordeal in prison and in her cancer battle, but she’s back — and she’s more ready than ever to make little kids into dancing stars. Dance Moms follows the lives of children who attend the Abby Lee Dance Company, and the talent they possess is truly incredible. And while plenty of the stars on the show have gone on to do amazing work after their time on the show, it’s Maddie Ziegler who’s really shown her star power.

We know Maddie best for her work with singer Sia now, but we can’t forget that both her and her younger sister, Kenzie, were staples on the show. And fans are loving this birthday post Maddie created to celebrate Kenzie’s 15th birthday.

Mackenzie and Maddie were often compared on Dance Moms

Maddie was one of Miller’s star students since she first started on the show, and she’s been (arguably) the most successful child to come out of the dance studio, too. Today, she works as Sia’s muse in her music videos, writes books, and works as an actress — and she’s only 16 years old. And while everyone remembers Maddie’s time on Dance Moms, we also can’t forget that her younger sister was also an incredible dancer who Miller often commended for her performances.

Unfortunately for Kenzie, it seems she did feel as if she was living in Maddie’s shadow. Newshub notes Kenzie said she even started her dance career because of Maddie at first. “I had to go to the studio to watch Maddie, so my mom was like, ‘Eh, I’ll just put her in dance so it’s easier for the both of us.’ I found a passion for it when I was eight or nine,” she told The Project. She then added that she “didn’t really like it when I was younger because I was getting compared to Maddie. I really just wanted to have fun and hang out with my friends, but now I obviously love it so much.”

Being around each other all the time for the show also created tension between them, too. Both Maddie and Mackenzie noted that because they were seeing so much of each other, they fought all the time while filming.

They both left the show to pursue other creative pursuits

The talented sisters have both found a ton of success in other avenues post-Dance Moms. And while we hear mostly about Maddie in the news, we can’t forget that Kenzie’s career as a singer is really taking off as well. And while the show may have served as a great jumping-off point for the sisters’ fame, their mother, Melissa, told Cosmopolitan that leaving it behind was the best thing they could have done.

Dance Moms was really a great platform for my kids, but they were pretty much done with it. It’s the same thing over and over, week after week,” she said. “My kids told me they didn’t want to do it anymore. When my kids aren’t happy anymore, I don’t care about anything else.” Not only that, but it seems the contracts Maddie and Kenzie had with Dance Moms were also holding them back from exploring their full potential. Melissa went on to say, “It was also holding the kids back. Maddie couldn’t do jobs because of her contract with Dance Moms. It was time to move on. … They miss the girls but they don’t miss the drama.”

Maddie made a birthday tribute for Kenzie on Instagram

Even after the tension and comparison on Dance Moms, both Maddie and Mackenzie are ultra close — and Maddie shared an adorable birthday tribute of Kenzie recently. Maddie captioned the post, “my baby sis is 15 !!!! i don’t think i’ve loved anything as much as you. i got so incredibly lucky to have you as my sister. i admire you in every way and i promise to always protect you. me and you for life [sic].” To that, Kenzie even replied back, “i love u so much bestfriend. thank u [sic].”

Fans are loving the adorable baby photos that Maddie posted, too. Celebrity hairstylist Justine Marjan commented, “This is so cute!!!!!!!!!!” And another fan added, “What a beautiful photo of you girls.” Even Australian model and actor Harvey Petito wrote, “Awwww.”

It looks like Maddie’s birthday is coming up next in September. We’ll have to wait and see if Kenzie makes a special Instagram post for this event, too.
