‘Dancing with the Stars’ Season 25: White House Staffers and More Surprises
Many fans have been wondering who will join the cast of Dancing with the Stars since last season’s finale. The show typically brings up famous faces from the past, along with controversial celebrities of today. It looks like it’s now trying to get another crop of celebrities that will get people talking.
The cast of the next season of the show has yet to be announced, but there have been rumors. Some stem from the professional dancers themselves and others from producers and reports. So where does it look like the show is heading for the new season?
Here are seven things we know about Season 25.
1. Sean Spicer has declined to appear
Another person makes it onto the long list of celebrities who declined to appear on the show! The former White House press secretary was reportedly approached to be on this season of the competition, but turned it down. It certainly would have been interesting.
Producers of the show played coy about this specific rumor. “I do joke around that at some point, I might be able to do a whole cast of those who worked at the White House,” said talent co-executive producer Deena Katz, according to CNN. She continued, “But … I think right now we’re going to work with what we’ve got going on here.”
There were later reports that Spicer declined the offer, which disappointed some. TMZ claims he was flattered by the offer, but has an “overwhelming number of commitments in the fall.”
Spicer’s team never made an official statement on the matter.
2. White House staffers may be offered spots, but the show is “not trying to be political”
The show hasn’t shied away from disgraced politicians in the past. But Katz claims this season isn’t trying to say anything politically.
“I’m not trying to be political; I’m not trying to push the edge,” Katz told CNN. “I’m really just trying to let people to escape for two hours.”
3. DeMario Jackson is reportedly in talks to join the cast
The former Bachelor in Paradise contestant got into hot water when he was accused of sexual assault while filming the show. But the production company seems to be standing by him, airing his time on the show and claiming it conducted an investigation and found no misconduct.
Now there are reports that he might get a spot on Dancing with the Stars. “DeMario’s team is in touch with production for DWTS,” an insider told Us Weekly. “They are still in negotiations. No official papers have been signed. DWTS has shown interest in having him on as a contestant.”
4. Peta Murgatroyd won’t be returning to the show
Some have wondered if the professional dancer will return to the show, now that she has given birth to her son with Maksim Chmerkovskiy. However, she has shot that down.
“There’s schedule, as I said before. I don’t want to spend 10 hours away a day from my child, so those things factor into it for me,” she explained to ET. “I’m a mom now and that comes first you know?”
5. Celine Dion is rumored to be joining the cast
The powerhouse keeps busy with performing. But rumor has it that she might actually take a break to put on her dancing shoes.
According to the ET, there are reports that she is also on the list of people being offered a spot on the show.
6. Derek Hough said he would return if Celine Dion joins the cast
“I heard a rumor that Celine Dion was doing and I was like ‘I would definitely come back for Celine Dion.’ She’s legend status. Icon status,” Derek Hough told ET.
Those two would definitely be an interesting partnership to watch on the ballroom floor.
7. The show will return Sept. 18
The cast may be not be announced yet, but we do have an official date! The show will return Sept. 18 for its new season.
Hopefully, we get to see which casting rumors are real or fake long before then.
