‘Dancing With The Stars’: The Show’s Fans Savagely ‘Welcome’ New Host Tyra Banks On Twitter
It was shocking enough to hear the news that both Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews had been suddenly fired from the popular dance competition.
Then the other dance shoe dropped when it was announced that Tyra Banks would be the hit show’s new host. And the news has not been received very well by the show’s fans.
Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews were abruptly dropped from ‘Dancing With The Stars’
The news this week that both co-hosts of the hit ABC competition had been fired was a stunning shock not only to fans but to the talent themselves. It was a move no one saw coming.
Bergeron, 65, who has hosted since the show’s 2005 start, genially announced his firing on Twitter, telling fans, “Just informed @DancingABC will be continuing without me. It’s been an incredible 15 year run and the most unexpected gift of my career. I’m grateful for that and for the lifelong friendships made. That said, now what am I supposed to do with all of these glitter masks?”
Actor Lea Thompson, who competed on the show in 2014, tweeted to Bergeron, “I love you. You are the best. There is no @DancingABC without you. They might as well cancel it. xoxoxoxoxo”
Community star Yvette Nicole Brown, posted on Twitter, “I am annoyed and can’t find any words that I should say about this news. . .”
Bergeron’s co-host Erin Andrews, 42, also tweeted the news of her firing, saying “Thank you ABC and the entire Dancing with the Stars family for six memorable seasons. Those years wouldn’t have been as special without my loving host Tom Bergeron, the talented dancers and witty judges. I will always cherish my days on that set, even if I wasn’t the best at walking in heels.”
And Tyra Banks was named the new host
ABC is ripping the bandage off the dance program’s current format, with the startling exit of its present hosts and now with the just-as-rapid-fire naming of new host, Tyra Banks, who will also serve as executive producer on the show.
The model and television personality expressed her delight to join the successful series in a statement in which she also praised Bergeron.
“I’ve been a fan of ‘DWTS’ since its beginning,” Banks 46, said in a statement this week. “The fun mixed with raw emotion, seeing celebrities push past their comfort zones, the sizzling dance performances. It’s always transported me to my days of turning it up 10 notches on the catwalk. Tom has set a powerful stage, and I’m excited to continue the legacy.”
‘DWTS’ fans aren’t exactly welcoming Banks with open arms on Twitter
After the announcement of Banks as new host of the competition, many of the show’s ardent fans quickly hopped on Twitter to note their intense displeasure.
One fan protested Banks as host, saying, “She wasn’t good on America’s Got Talent. . . I cant see her being better than Mr. Bergeron.”
Another tweet read, “Considering how horribly she treated and spoke to people when she hosted America’s Next Top Model, this is a poor choice and a very hard pass.”
“She found a new outlet to talk about herself the entire time,” tweeted another DWTS fan.
“So they took the two, Universally LOVED hosts and tossed them out and replaced them with this Mean Queen,” a very loyal fan tweeted. “Yeah. That will work. Just what we need. Everyone I know who watched @DancingABC is now promising not to watch. We needed comfort tv What we loved ABC took that away from us.”
Finally, one tweeter expressed some hope in Banks’ future on the show: “I’m ready for a new face. Welcome, Tyra!”
