‘Dancing with the Stars’: Tom Bergeron Answers if He’s Returning as a Competitor
Celebrities from television to sports have competed on Dancing with the Stars. One of them went on to host the show. Could Tom Bergeron return to be a star himself after being fired? This is his answer and more about the change.
Tyra Banks is replacing Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews
The show is coming back with the big change of Bergeron and Erin Andrews no longer hosting. Tyra Banks will be taking their place.
“Just informed @DancingABC will be continuing without me. It’s been an incredible 15 year run and the most unexpected gift of my career. I’m grateful for that and for the lifelong friendships made. That said, now what am I supposed to do with all of these glitter masks?” Bergeron tweeted on July 13.
“I’ve been a fan of DWTS since its beginning … The fun mixed with raw emotion, seeing celebrities push past their comfort zones, the sizzling dance performances … it’s always transported me to my days of turning it up 10 notches on the catwalk,” Banks said in a news release, according to CNN.
Fans and celebrities aren’t happy about the news
Many fans are sharing their reactions to the big change. People are very upset that the host won’t return.
“Honestly, just cancel the show now, @DancingABC. Isn’t 2020 awful enough? Now we find out that Tom won’t be hosting? The show became a complete joke when you had Sean Spicer on, and now just seals the deal that your viewership will be next to nothing,” one fan tweeted.
“@Tom_Bergeron is the best in the business. And I’m sure he’ll look fierce in a glitter mask,” Matt Iseman, who hosts, American Ninja Warrior, tweeted.
Bergeron won’t return as a competitor
Some fans hoped to see Bergeron on the show again, but in a different role. He was the longest-running host on the dance show.
Lisa Canning, Samantha Harris, and Brooke Burke-Charvet previously worked as presenters. Burke-Charvet actually competed on season 7 with Derek Hough as her partner. She later returned in season 10 to host. Bergeron is a star to the viewers so why can’t he try to compete on the dance floor himself?
Bergeron was previously asked in an interview with Assignment X if he ever wanted to try a dance himself. “Not really. I’m pretty happy. I like where I am in the show,” he said. The host added, “That’s right. I let them do their job and they let me do mine [laughs].”
Some fans hoped to still see him dance now that he will no longer help celebrities get their scores from the judges. “Is this you finally becoming a contestant?” one fan asked under his tweet. “Um…no,” Bergeron answered.
Sadly, fans aren’t left with much hope of Bergeron returning. Time will tell how Banks will handle the hosting job.
