Will David Harbour Be In ‘Stranger Things’ Season 4?
In Stranger Things, David Harbour’s character, Jim Hopper, is chief of the Hawkins Police Department. He is roped into the mystery in Season 1 through his investigations as a cop but soon takes a personal interest. In Season 2, it’s revealed that he has taken in Eleven as his adopted daughter, which brings with it a new set of challenges. However, Season 3 complicates things a bit. So will he return for Season 4?
What happened to Hopper in the Stranger Things Season 3 finale?
Stranger Things Season 3 sees Hopper the now-disgruntled parent of a teenager. He lashes out at Mike in order to keep him and Eleven from escalating their relationship. Of course, the mysteries of Hawkins then take priority.
Throughout the season, he and Joyce Byers appear to move closer to a relationship themselves, all while investigating the Russian operatives in Hawkins. In the final episode, Hopper sacrifices himself to save Joyce, Eleven, Hawkins, and the world. It appears as though he’s dead.
Harbour has been experiencing a career surge
Harbour has been acting for nearly 20 years, with small roles in notable films such as Brokeback Mountain, Revolutionary Road, and Quantum of Solace. He had appeared in single episodes of Law & Order and its spinoff multiple times and had recurring roles on series like The Newsroom.
But lately, things have been going very well for Harbour. In addition to Stranger Things, he starred in the Hellboy remake as the titular character. Recently, it was announced that Harbour will have a role in the upcoming Black Widow solo film.
Here’s what we know about Stranger Things Season 4
Though Netflix hasn’t given it the official greenlight, Stranger Things creators the Duffer Brothers seem eager to continue the saga. In fact, they’ve spoken about what’s to come, including how the story will expand to outside of Hawkins and whether or not Harbour is alive.
“We have the big broad strokes. It’s just now about filling in those lines in the details,” said Ross Duffer to EW. “We’re pretty excited about where it’s potentially going to go. Again, like we said, it’s going to feel very different than this season. But I think that’s the right thing to do and I think it’ll be exciting.”
Could Black Widow keep him out of Season 4?
Appearing in a big-budget Marvel film takes a lot of time, so maybe that’s the reason Harbour has been written out of Season 4. However, there are a couple of issues with this theory. For one, Black Widow is said to be filming now. As previously stated, Stranger Things Season 4 isn’t official yet, so they’re definitely not filming. This means that it’s likely that the two projects wouldn’t overlap.
Additionally, Harbour’s contract does include a potential fourth season, according to TVLine. That doesn’t mean that he would definitely return if it happens, but given everything we know about the show, it seems likely that they won’t completely abandon his character.
