‘Days of Our Lives’: Tamara Braun Learned Her Character, Ava Vitali, Was Still Alive Through a Neighbor
Ava Vitali is back from the dead on Days our Lives and she’s lived to tell the story! Tamara Braun is now in her third stint on the show and back with her first character In an interesting story, the actress shared recently that she found out Ava wasn’t dead through someone not even on the show.
Tamara Braun is a soap opera legend
Though Braun is recognizable from her role as Carly Corinthos on General Hospital and her stint as Reese Williams on All My Children, her Days of our Lives roles are also notable. She debuted on Days of our Lives as Ava Vitali, the mob heiress tied to Steve Johnson, in 2008. She then returned to the show again 2015 to 2016 for its 50th anniversary. She wasn’t in the role for long but still won a Daytime Emmy for her work.
After being killed off, she popped back up on Days of our Lives as a legacy character. This time on the show, she played Taylor Walker, the sister of Nicole Walker (Arianne Zucker) and Brandon Walker (Matt Cedeño). She was the third actress to play the character. Interestingly enough, another former General Hospital star, Natalia Livingston, was in the role for shortly before Braun remained in the role only in 2011, making this an even shorter stint. After this, she returned to General Hospital in the new role of Kim Nero.
Tamara Braun was on ‘General Hospital’ when a neighbor told her Ava Vitali was still alive on the show
In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, Braun talked about the experience of being back on the show and more. She was actually on General Hospital when she found out Ava could be returning to the show.
“I was surprised to get the call [from Days of our Lives] — it’s always nice to get the call — but I did know that a while ago, DAYS had had this [story] with initials on the door,” she explained. “And my dear, sweet, wonderful neighbor, who is like my mom here in California, June, watches both shows, DAYS and GH, since I’ve been on, and she told me, ‘All these characters are coming back from the dead, and these initials are on the door, and they showed A.V. today! What if that’s Ava Vitali?’”
For Braun, it was a bit confusing as she wasn’t on the show right now and was actually playing a different character on a different soap.
“And I said, ‘Well, that’s interesting, but the person playing Ava Vitali is a little busy right now,’ because I was on General Hospital at the time,” she continued. “So, I had heard that from June, that all the people coming back from the dead matched the initials on the door.”
Coming back from the dead is common in soap operas
Braun also noted a story that co-executive producer Albert Alaar told her when Ava was first killed off from the show. And though it does ring true that many soap deaths aren’t final, it means even more than it normally would due to the fact that we know Ava is alive now.
She said, “Whether it was just a nice way of saying, ‘We’re killing your character,’ or he was really saying, ‘Dead doesn’t always mean really dead,’ I felt like, ‘It’s a soap, so in that sense, you never know!’ There is always a possibility that the bodies have been switched, possessions have occurred, spells have been cast [laughs].””
Days of our Lives airs weekdays on NBC.
