‘Deadpool 3’ Confirmed To ‘Happen Soon’: Will It Include An Introduction To The MCU?

Ryan Reynolds is officially reprising his role as the Merc with a Mouth in Deadpool 3. The creators of the popular franchise just confirmed that another Deadpool film is in the works and fans will not have to wait long before the movie opens in theaters. Now that Disney has acquired the rights to the superhero, will Deadpool 3 introduce Reynolds’s character into the MCU?

‘Deadpool’ creators confirm new project

Taking to social media, Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld announced that they are working on the next film in the franchise. Liefeld did not reveal any specifics about the project, but he did assure fans that it will happen sooner rather than later. Disney has not confirmed a timeline for the movie.

Deadpool 2 was released back in 2018, so it is possible that filming could begin sometime this year. While we wait for more updates, it is good to know that Disney plans on continuing the Deadpool franchise and capitalizing on its previous success.

Liefeld first teased Deadpool 3 a few months ago. According to Ladbible, Liefeld assured fans that the eponymous anti-hero will be back in action. Liefeld explained how Disney acquired the franchise from Fox with the intention of releasing more films.

The network may or may not move forward with future X-Men films, but Deadpool is certainly on the table. The first two Deadpool movies were more valuable than recent X-Men offerings, making it a no brainer to continue the franchise.

Will Deadpool change?

One of the biggest questions about Deadpool 3 is whether or not Reynolds will reprise his role. The actor has voiced uncertainty about the merger in the past, so it is a little unclear if Disney wants to reboot the character altogether.

Fortunately, it sounds like Reynolds wants to reprise his role as Deadpool, which is definitely a good sign. Reynolds’s version of the character is one reason why it was so popular and it makes sense that Disney would keep him on board.

Deadpool director David Leitch has also expressed interest in helming the third movie in the trilogy. In a recent interview, Leitch said he would absolutely direct Deadpool 3 if Disney asked him. Leitch then admitted that a lot of things are up in the air following the merger and he has no idea what will happen in the coming months.

There are also developments in the MCU following the events in Avengers: Endgame to consider. Luckily, Leitch already has some story ideas for a third Deadpool film and is ready to go as soon as he gets the call.

Will Disney introduce Deadpool to the MCU?

So far, Deadpool has not been included in the MCU. But considering the success of the franchise, it sounds like Marvel president Kevin Feige is open to the idea of bringing Deadpool into the fold. Exactly what this will look like is anyone’s guess, but Feige recently told fans that they have zero plans to change the character. Between Leitch’s vision for the project and Reynolds’s portrayal of the character, we are confident they will figure it out.

That said, Marvel is currently entering Phase 4 of its master plan and Feige recently revealed that they do not plan on bringing X-Men into the MCU for quite some time. Phase 4 is expected to span four to five years, which means we might not see anyone within the X-Men universe until Phase 5.

It is unclear if that includes Deadpool or not, but it is safe to say that we probably won’t see the character crossover for a while. More than likely, the studio will slowly introduce Deadpool into the MCU rather than all at once.

Marvel is expected to kick off Phase 4 with Black Widow, The Eternals, and Shang-Chi. The studio also has several sequels coming down the pipeline, including Black Panther 2, Captain Marvel 2, and Doctor Strange 2.
