‘Deadpool 3’: Will Ryan Reynolds Trash the X-Men for Not Being Part of the MCU?
Marvel is reportedly going all-in on Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool. There were a lot of questions surrounding the Deadpool franchise after Marvel acquired the fights from Fox, including whether or not Deadpool 3 would get a PG-13 rating to satisfy Disney’s family-friendly platform. Although Marvel has been tight-lipped about Deadpool 3, sources claim that the studio wants Reynolds to continue breaking the fourth wall, which means poking fun at all the characters who are not a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Marvel has this one request for Reynolds
One of the elements that made Reynolds’ character so hilarious was his penchant for breaking the fourth wall. In the first movie, for example, he made fun of the fact that Fox could only afford to have two X-Men characters appear in the film.
In Deadpool 2, Reynolds made a similar jab by having a brief scene of Beast shutting the door on a room filled with famous X-Men characters.
With Reynolds being introduced to the MCU, Marvel reportedly wants him to continue the joke in Deadpool 3. According to We Got This Covered, the third installment will feature a few X-Men cameos, and the studio wants Reynolds to poke fun of the characters who don’t make it into the movie.
A source claims that the X-Men cameos are going to be very brief, though the insider did not say which characters will be the butt of the joke. We also do not know if the characters featured in the movie will be new or not.
Marvel is reportedly looking to reboot the entire X-Men franchise, so we might see actors taking on new roles when Deadpool 3 hits theaters.
Reynolds confirms ‘Deadpool 3’
Marvel announced all of the titles it plans on releasing over the next two years at Comic-Con last summer. But given how the studio only recently acquired the rights to Deadpool and X-Men, there was no official word on Deadpool 3.
During an interview on Live with Kelly and Ryan, Reynolds confirmed that he is currently working on the third installment in the hit franchise.
“We’re working on it right now with the whole team,” Reynolds shared. “We’re over at Marvel, which is the big leagues all of a sudden. It’s kind of crazy.”
The announcement, of course, does not come as a huge surprise. Deadpool and Deadpool 2 were both massive successes at the box office, pulling in over $1.5 billion in worldwide ticket sales.
Considering the success of the franchise (which had a budget of just under $168 million), Marvel would have been crazy to reboot it. That said, it will probably be a while before we learn any details about the movie’s plot.
What about Deadpool and ‘X-Force’?
In the comics, Cable is the one who originally formed the X-Force, a group of mutants who are pretty violent when handling mutant-human interactions.
Fans got their first taste of the X-Force in Deadpool 2, but Wade Wilson is the one who formed the team in the movie, not Cable (Josh Brolin). In fact, the group was created to take Cable down.
The X-Force cameo in Deadpool 2 was a big joke, however, as most of the team died before the mission even started. Even still, prior to the big merger, there were talks of Fox launching an X-Force project in the near future.
Will Marvel move forward with ‘X-Force’?
Now that Disney owns the rights of X-Force, it is unclear if the studio has plans to move forward with the project. Marvel is reportedly going to reboot the entire X-Men franchise, so it is possible that X-Force gets similar treatment.
Recent X-Men films, like Dark Phoenix, have been major flops at the box office. Although it will be strange seeing new actors take on some of the franchise’s most iconic roles, X-Men is clearly due for a reboot.
Meanwhile, Marvel has not revealed when Deadpool 3 will hit theaters, though the movie will likely be a part of Phase 5 of the MCU.
