The upcoming Deadpool movie has just found one of its female leads in Fast & Furious 6 star Gina Carano. The mixed martial artist turned-actress has reportedly closed a deal to join Ryan Reynolds in Fox’s action adventure flick, based on the Marvel character.

Though the possibility of a Deadpool standalone film has been rumored over for years, it was only officially confirmed this past September. Since then, details regarding the film have remained largely under wraps. What we do know is that Reynolds (who first originated the titular role in X-Men Origins: Wolverine) will once again play the assassin, who is diagnosed with cancer and undergoes a procedure in an effort to cure himself of the disease. Instead, the operation ends up leaving him twisted and scarred, but also instilled with new superpowers.

VFX artist Tim Miller, who first became attached to the project since 2011, will make his directorial debut with Deadpool. Meanwhile, Lauren Shuler Donner (X-Men: Days of Future Past) is on board to produce.

So where does Carano fit into this? According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actress has been cast in the character of Angel Dust. It’s still unclear exactly how she will figure into the plotline, but in the comics, Angel Dust is known to be part of an underground mutant group in Chicago known as the Morlocks. Angel Dust’s power is the ability to increase her adrenaline, allowing her to gain superhuman strength, speed, and endurance for a short period of time.

For Carano, this would be the latest in a series of action-adventure roles. The actress received positive reviews for her starring turn in the 2011 thriller, Haywire. She then transitioned to her first major franchise, with a role in Fast & Furious 6, before leading the 2014 film, In The Blood.

She’s not the only new confirmed member of the Deadpool cast though. Per THR, T.J. Miller (Silicon Valley) has also signed on to the movie. Though his exactly role remains undisclosed, his character will reportedly serve to “bring comedic relief” to the flick.

In addition to Carano and T.J Miller, The Hollywood Reporter reports that the Russian X-Men character known as Colossus (also known as Piotr Rasputin) will also make an appearance in the movie. It’s unclear if the character will be played by Daniel Cudmore, who took on the role in X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men: First Class, or if it will be recast.

Deadpool is currently aiming to start filming in Vancouver in March, so we’ll likely hear plenty more casting information in the coming weeks. In the meantime, Carano will be making her mark on the big screen with plenty of other projects this year. She recently wrapped production on Bus 657 opposite Robert DeNiro, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Kate Bosworth and is also co-starring with Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy) in Kickboxer, the reboot of the early 1990s action franchise. Next, she is expected to start filming the action thriller, Extraction, opposite Bruce Willis.

Deadpool is currently slotted to hit theaters on February 12, 2016.
