Dean Unglert Said Leaving Caelynn Miller-Keyes on ‘Bachelor in Paradise’ Worked Out ‘Perfectly’ for Him
[Spoilers ahead for Bachelor in Paradise!]
This season of Bachelor in Paradise proved to be an epic ride from start to finish. And while we saw a few couples get engaged at the end, the most intriguing (and possibly most compatible) duo proved to be Caelynn Miller-Keyes and Dean Unglert. Miller-Keyes had a rough start in Paradise, as her past with Blake Horstmann brought a ton of emotions on screen. But once Unglert entered the beach, she started falling for him despite others warning her that he’d most likely break her heart.
We know Miller-Keyes and Unglert eventually made things work, but their journey on Paradise certainly wasn’t easy. And Unglert recently mentioned on his podcast that leaving Miller-Keyes behind initially on the show worked out quite well for him. Here’s what he said.
Dean Unglert initially left Bachelor in Paradise without Caelynn Miller-Keyes
Caelynn Miller-Keyes fell hard and fast for Dean Unglert when he first arrived on the beach — but from the very beginning, they weren’t on the same page. Miller-Keyes was hoping to find lasting love on the show, while Unglert stated on his Help! I Suck At Dating … podcast that he was really just in Paradise for a fun time. For that reason, he dumped Miller-Keyes when he realized they were getting more serious than he was comfortable with. Unglert ended up leaving her in tears on the beach on her birthday even after giving her his rose.
Miller-Keyes was heartbroken to see Unglert go, but she attempted to move on with Connor Saeli. Sadly, Saeli never stood a chance, as Unglert realized his mistake and came back to Paradise to ask Miller-Keyes if she’d leave the show with him. “I can’t tell you exactly what’s going to happen next, but I know that I want to try, and I want to figure this out, and I want it to be with you,” he said. From there, she reluctantly agreed.
Unglert says leaving Miller-Keyes worked out 100% in his favor
Despite Unglert completely regretting his decision to leave Miller-Keyes behind, he noted on his podcast that it actually worked out for the best. “It’s funny to say this because it worked out perfectly for me. It couldn’t have worked out any better for me,” Unglert noted.
Part of the reason he was happy he skipped out on Paradise for a bit was so that he didn’t have to attend Chris Randone and Krystal Nielson’s wedding, which he really didn’t want to go to. “Not only that, multiple exes of mine were at that wedding that I just didn’t want to see.”
Aside from the wedding, Unglert was also happy that Miller-Keyes got to explore a new relationship with Connor Saeli. “So she didn’t have to, like, have me around … worrying about my feelings while she could explore her relationship with him,” he added. “It literally blew my mind at how the stars just aligned for all of that stuff.”
The two are seemingly doing quite well outside of Paradise
When Unglert returned to Paradise, he wasn’t sure if Miller-Keyes would leave with him — but he noted on his podcast that he struck a deal with production that stated he wouldn’t be allowed to reenter the beach if he came back. Luckily, Miller-Keyes still had lingering feelings she wanted to see through. And now, the two are doing better than ever.
Miller-Keyes and Unglert even created a video showing what their life living out of Unglert’s van is like. And Unglert also mentioned on his podcast that the two of them committed to a two-year cellphone plan together. “We’ve taken the biggest step I’ve ever taken in a relationship,” Unglert said of the phone situation.
It seems Unglert and Miller-Keyes are very happy together despite past turmoil. Congratulations to the happy couple!
