Deena Cortese Talks About Cancer Ahead of ‘Jersey Shore’ Finale
Deena Cortese may be known for her loud and audacious personality on The Jersey Shore, but on the finale, viewers were able to witness that she also has a warm and giving side to her as well when she teamed up with the Be the Match organization that helps to give support and much-needed resources to people suffering from cancer.
A Busy Schedule
Just like other Jersey Shore cast members, Deena has more than one outlet that brings in revenue for her. This includes appearances on Celebrity Fear Factor, Snooki and JWoww, and VH1’s Couples Therapy.
Not only does Deena seem to have a sometimes hectic work schedule, but last year, she was busy planning her beautiful October wedding to husband, Chris Buckner. This year, she is still just as busy as she and Chris are getting ready to welcome a baby boy that is expected to be here before the new year.
Sad Times for the Cortese Family
Life has not always been about smiles and sunny beaches for the Jersey Shore alum. In 2016, just five months after she got engaged to Chris, her dad lost his battle with cancer. He had been fighting leukemia, a type of cancer that affects the blood cells in your body. Deena and her father seemed to be very close, and the loss of her father caused her immense pain.
Even though the pain of losing her dad is still very much there, Deena has still made sure to honor his memory by including him in the important events in her life. At her wedding, she had carried a sweet photo of her dad with her on a keychain that reads “I used to be his Angel. Now he is mine.” She also already has clothes for her newborn son to wear that ensures that her little bundle of joy knows that he is loved by his late grandfather.
Making Lemonade out of Lemons
What a perfect night! In just a few short hours we raised 40,000 dollars for @BeTheMatch .. I know my dads looking down so proud and I hope this event brings awareness to blood cancers and @BeTheMatch https://t.co/NITZZ0MDO9… #JSFamilyVacation

With having to deal with such a hard loss of losing her father at a young age, it would be easy for many to understand if Deena wanted to be angry at the world after the passing of her father. But, nope, that is just not the “Deena Cortese way.” Instead, she has taken her tragedy and turned it into something uplifting and powerful. On the Jersey Shore: Family Vacation season finally, Deena helped raise money for Be The Match organization to help aid them in their efforts to find treatments and cures for different types of blood cancers.
Deena, along with friends, family, and other Jersey Shore cast members, held a fundraiser where they auctioned off various items, including a chance to touch Pauly D’s hair. Other cast members helped as well. Not only could people bid on a once-in-a-lifetime chance to take a shot with Nicole ‘Snooki’ LaValle, but patrons could also bid on an opportunity to engage in a meatball eating contest with Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino. All in all, it looked as if everyone had a fun time that night, and they had even managed to raise over $40,000 for the charity.

Before the season finale aired on December 13, Deena took to Twitter to spread the word about the Be the Match organization and try to raise awareness to cancer research. She even took the time to show her appreciation to her roommates for helping out with such a worthy and noble cause.
Although Deena Cortese may be known to some for her loud, and sometimes drunken, antics, it is obvious that she also has a good heart and a compassionate side to her as well.
