‘BIP’: Demi Burnett and Kristian Haggerty Split; ‘You Will Always Have a Piece of My Heart’
Paradise Lost. Another Bachelor in Paradise couple has called it quits. Just hours after John Paul Jones and Tayshia Adams announced their breakup, fan favorites Demi Burnett and Kristian Haggerty have shared that they have chosen to call off their engagement and split. Though rumors have been swirling for weeks, especially after Haggerty’s sister, Caitlin, left a shady comment on Burnett’s Instagram post, the couple officially confirmed their breakup today via Instagram.
Though Burnett and Haggerty certainly had an unconventional start to their relationship, they instantly gained tons of support from Bachelor Nation. Not only were they the first same-sex couple in the franchise’s history, but people were also inspired by their unique love story. Haggerty is actually the first person in Bachelor history to join the Bachelor in Paradise cast without having been a cast member of The Bachelor or The Bachelorette. Instead, the pair met in between Burnett filming The Bachelor and Bachelor in Paradise and hit it off.
The couple fell in love on Bachelor in Paradise
Even though the couple was falling for one another, Burnett still opted to try her luck on the beach this Summer. Though the 24-year-old eventually made a connection with Derek Peth, it was clear that her heart and mind were elsewhere. After expressing her feelings to Chris Harrison, he invited Haggerty to stay on the beach so the pair could explore their love together. Eventually, the pair fell deeper in love and left the beach engaged.
Demi Burnett and Kristian Haggerty announce split
Unfortunately, the engagement was short-lived. Less than two months later, the pair took to their respective Instagram pages to share identical messages with their fans. Haggerty and Burnett both expressed that they came to decide that what was best for both of them was going their separate ways. “What has always been at the forefront of our relationship is love and care for one another. Our priority is doing what is best for us. With a heavy heart full of love for one another we have decided it is best for us to take a step back from our relationship. We ultimately want what is best for us in the long run and for us right now, that means being apart and growing individually,” the couple began.
How their journey has helped others
Haggerty and Burnett then expressed that they were forever grateful that their relationship helped others feel more comfortable within their own skin. “We have felt so much love and support from you all as you’ve followed our journey together and for that we are grateful. We will forever be proud of the impact our love story has made and we hope it has helped others feel more accepted and confident within themselves. We hope it reminded others they aren’t alone and don’t need to be ashamed of who they are,” the Bachelor in Paradise alums continued.
Why the couple is no longer engaged
The pair ended by stating that they still were on good terms and had love for one another, but a split was best for them at this moment in time. “And we hope it shows that two people can love one another in different ways and for us right now that is apart. But we remain committed to encouraging each other, supporting each other and continuing forward in a way best for us,” Burnett and Haggerty wrote.
Haggerty’s sweet Instagram story post
Haggerty followed up this Instagram post with an additional Instagram story message. Posting an image of the pair embracing, she wrote a sweet message about her ex fianceé. “You will always have a piece of my heart,” she penned. Burnett quickly reposted it on her own Instagram story with a simple “same,” caption alongside a heart emoji. It’s great the pair seems to be doing well post-split and are committed to supporting one another as they go their separate ways.
How is Bachelor Nation feeling about the breakup
But how does the rest of Bachelor Nation feel about Burnett and Haggerty’s split? Though both women have disabled comments on their respective breakup posts, feelings expressed on other images are a mix of positive and negative. One thing’s for sure, things aren’t looking too well for the remaining Bachelor in Paradise couples from this season.
