How did Thomas Trussell III pass away?
Trussell passed away of a drug overdose on Oct. 8. He was discovered by members of the Los Angeles Fire Department at a Super 8 motel in Los Angeles’ Echo Park neighborhood after someone called 911.
The model had struggled with addiction for years, according to friends. Thomas Trussell III Trussell’s other close friend, celebrity wardrobe stylist Maeve Reilly (who styles Hailey Bieber), posted her own tribute to her late beloved friend on Instagram.
Reilly wrote in part, “My best friend and little brother overdosed and died yesterday… I loved you so much Tommy. You lit up every room. You loved hard. You showed up for your friends. You wanted to be sober so bad. You really tried. “
Lovato’s struggle to maintain her own sobriety
It’s clear that Trussell’s tragic death hit home in part because of Lovato’s own struggle with addiction. She has been open about her ongoing battles to retain her sobriety and manage her mental health.
Lovato is diagnosed with bipolar disorder and has also struggled with an eating disorder in the past.
Lovato had a major relapse in 2018 after six years of sobriety and had to be revived by Narcan. After a week of hospitalization and several months of inpatient treatment, she returned somewhat quietly to the public eye.
Lovato also let fans know that she’s realized that her sobriety and mental health will be an ongoing battle for the remainder of her life. Luckily, she shared in January 2019 that she was six months sober.
