Demi Lovato Talks ‘Whirlwind Romance’ as Fiance Max Ehrich ‘Left Town’ for Work

Singer Demi Lovato has made nearly as many headlines in 2020 for her romance with actor Max Ehrich as she has for her return to music. And while the two have had plenty of time to spend together during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, there’s currently one thing keeping them apart — distance.

Demi Lovato and Max Ehrich’s relationship timeline

Lovato and Ehrich sparked dating rumors early in their relationship when he shared photos cuddling with her dogs, Ella and Batman, in March 2020. However, they didn’t make it Instagram official until their appearance in Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber’s music video for their song “Stuck with U,” released in early May.

From there, they ramped up the (social media) PDA, regularly posting photos and videos of one another on their verified accounts. They were even photographed by the paparazzi getting groceries. Then, in late July 2020, Lovato shared that Ehrich had proposed, and they were engaged to be married.

Shortly after that, in early August, Ehrich and Lovato shared photos from an “anniversary” dinner together, leading fans to wonder exactly how long they had been dating. Some assumed six months, while others thought perhaps it had actually been a year. But Lovato soon clarified it had been just five months since they met.

“Nobody’s had a perfect 2020,” she wrote in an opinion letter in Vogue. “Far from it. What we all need to realize, though, is that it’s OK for things not to be OK sometimes. Personally, I’ve experienced extreme highs and lows. I met my fiancé in March and I fell in love with him. We’ve had this whirlwind romance and have been able to spend this time together.”

They’ve spent most of their relationship living together

As Lovato said, she’s had Ehrich by her side throughout the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. One early indicator of their relationship was when Ehrich shared a shirtless photo on Instagram, captioning it, “when u realize u should’ve packed more for your quarantine stay.” Lovato commented, “Fine by me…” seemingly confirming they were living together.

That photo came about in late March, though there were indications earlier in the month that the two were spending time together. And a few days after Ehrich shared that Instagram, he sang a song while on Instagram Live. Lovato entered into the frame, and though she quickly exited, it was hard to deny their status after that.

Both Lovato and Ehrich (who is also a musician) have revealed to their fans that they are working on new music while continuing to take health precautions. “I’m in the ‘at risk’ category for Covid-19 because of my asthma and other health issues,” Lovato wrote in the Vogue letter.

But as productions in the U.S. resume, Ehrich has returned to acting. And it would appear as though his current gig is not in Los Angeles, where Lovato is based. “My baby left town today to work on something really special,” wrote Lovato in an Instagram Story on August 31. The next day, Ehrich shared the above photo from a wardrobe fitting.
