Surprise motherf*****! The latest episode of ‘Dexter: New Blood’ sees James Doakes appear

In the sixth episode of Dexter: New Blood, viewers get to see Angela confronting Dexter about his identity. Dexter is shocked she figured him out and wonders who could have given him up. Deciding on Molly Park, he goes to her website and does some sleuthing around to see what she knows about him. He scrolls across an episode on Miami’s Bay Harbor Butcher case that evokes a memory of Doakes being suspicious of him.

Doakes would eventually learn Dexter was indeed a serial killer, but Dexter kidnapped him before he could make the arrest. Knowing Doakes didn’t fit the code, he thought about releasing him and turning himself in. But Lila West decided to handle the problem for him by setting Doakes up to die in an explosion.

He ultimately went down for the murders. However, Molly is skeptical due to a rumor that Doakes was out of the country when some of the killings occurred. “Maybe the police didn’t want to keep investigating the biggest case in Miami Metro history?” she wonders. “But I f****** do because if I’m right the Bay Harbor Butcher could still be out there, still feeling all butchery, still a threat.”

Dexter figures Molly is definitely on to him. However, he later learns she’s investigating Iron Lake’s missing girls. He has no idea that Angela Batista is the one who tipped Angela off about his true identity.

Fans are loving that cameo

The episode only included a brief glimpse of Doakes, but fans are happy to see him, nonetheless.

“Even if it was for 5 seconds I loved seeing Doakes give his ‘I’m watching you, creep’ move,” one said on Reddit.

Another wrote, “I’m really glad they’re touching upon the past fairly often this season. Between Dexter’s full name now (James Lindsay), his conception of Debra mentioning Doakes, and now the podcast episode of the Bay Harbor Butcher, this is the third Doakes reference we’ve gotten this season so far.”

The appearance comes after much speculation that Erik King would reprise his role as the strong-willed sergeant. Unfortunately, his representative ruled out his involvement to Showbiz Cheat Sheet. But the show has featured other deceased characters, such as Rita Morgan and the Trinity Killer.
