Did A DC Comics Executive Just Confirm Robert Pattinson Is The Next Batman?

Rumors of Robert Pattinson being the next Batman have been circulating for weeks. We still have not gotten any official confirmation, but a DC Comics executive may have just let slip that Pattinson will be the next caped crusader. Is Pattinson getting ready for what could be the role of a lifetime?

DC Comics may have confirmed Pattinson casting

Taking to social media, the head of the creative department for DC Comics, Jim Lee, posted a photo of everything he brought along for his trip to Abu Dhabi. Among Lee’s personal items were a passport, a Nintendo Switch, and two tablets.

One of the tablets featured an interview Pattinson did a while back with Pamela Anderson, sparking rumors that DC is seriously considering casting the Twilight alum for the coveted role.

“Ready for my 16 hour nonstop flight! What am I missing?” Lee wrote alongside the pic.

DC has kept a tight lid on the upcoming Batman flick. We know that the film, titled The Batman, will be directed by Matt Reeves. Other than that, plot details remain a mystery. According to CBR, fans have speculated that the main villains will be the Riddler, Catwoman, and the Penguin, though nothing official has been revealed.

There have also been reports that Josh Gad is set to play the Penguin while Vanessa Hudgens will appear as Catwoman. These rumors, of course, are pure speculation, and we will not know anything for sure until we get closer to production.

Will Robert Pattinson become the next Batman?

Given his previous film credits, there is little doubt that Pattinson has the acting chops to play Bruce Wayne. He may need to beef up a bit to play Batman, but he certainly has the capacity to do so.

That said, Pattinson has shied away from mainstream projects ever since the end of Twilight, and this would easily be his biggest role over the past several years. If the script is interesting enough, we could see Pattinson accepting the challenge. After all, now that Ben Affleck is out, the franchise could use a new direction.

Although Robert Pattinson is in the running to land the role, he is not the only actor up for the gig. There are also rumors that Nicholas Hoult is in the running to become the next Batman, so Pattinson clearly has some stiff competition.

To add more fuel the rumors, Pattinson was recently spotted hanging out inside Warner Bros. headquarters in Los Angeles. Filming for the movie, however, is not expected to begin until the fall, so it is unclear why Pattinson was at the studio this early. Pattinson has not commented on the rumors, so it is difficult to tell what he is working on at the moment.

Willem Dafoe opens up about Robert Pattinson

While Pattinson remains quiet, Willem Dafoe recently shared his thoughts on the Twilight star becoming Bruce Wayne. Dafoe and Pattinson teamed up for the movie, The Lighthouse, which premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

During the promotional tour of The Lighthouse, Dafoe said that Robert Pattinson’s strong chin is what makes him a good candidate for Batman. Dafoe did not confirm the rumors, but he clearly is on board with the idea. Dafoe has played several roles in superhero films over the years, including an appearance as Nuidis Vulko in Aquaman and the Green Goblin in Spider-Man.

Is Ben Affleck still involved?

Ben Affleck was supposed to develop the next Batman solo film but ultimately opted to step away from the project. He handed the baton to Reeves, who had a better idea about where to take the character. Reeves has been working on a script since 2017, one year before Affleck called it quits. The upcoming movie is expected to center around a young Bruce Wayne and will be loosely based on the Year One comic by Frank Miller

Aside from the Batman movie, DC is gearing up for a slate of films that will feature characters like the Flash, Green Lantern, The Suicide Squad, Black Adam, Nightwing, New Gods, Plastic Man, and Supergirl. Matt Reeves’ The Batman, meanwhile, is expected to open in theaters in June of 2021.

Robert Pattinson has not confirmed or denied the Batman rumors.
