Did a Mystery Post Reveal When Justin Bieber Will Release New Music?
Whether you like Justin Bieber or not, you have heard of him. Bieber’s relationships and personal struggles are utterly ubiquitous. This is interesting given it’s been awhile since he released a new album. Now, a new Instagram post from the singer might imply he has new music just around the corner.
When’s the next Justin Bieber album?
It might be hard to believe, but Bieber’s previous album, Purpose, was released over four years ago. For many of Bieber’s younger fans, this probably feels like a lifetime. That doesn’t mean Bieber has stopped putting out new music. Since the release of Purpose, he’s collaborated with other prominent musicians like Ed Sheeran, DJ Khaled, Quavo, Chance the Rapper, and Billie Eilish.
Though Bieber’s recent music has garnered acclaim from his fans, many want him to release a new album. Bieber has been through so much over the past four years, it would be very interesting to see him discuss his personal life in a full-length musical project.
An album might just be on the way. According to Billboard, Bieber recently posted an image of a the number “2020” to Instagram. The image was captioned “December 24, December 31, January 3 … #2020.”
This post could be read a number of ways. Perhaps Bieber is planning on releasing new music on Dec. 24, 2019, Dec. 31, 2019, and Jan. 3, 2020. Perhaps he is planning on releasing music on December 24, 2020, December 31, 2020, and January 3, 2021. Even if these days are days he will release new material, it’s not clear which of these dates pertain to songs, albums, or EPs.
Should we trust Justin Beiber’s Instagram post?
Even if Bieber is teasing new music, this doesn’t mean his promises will be fulfilled. Refinery29 reports Bieber implied he would release new music shortly back in December 2018. That month, he told a fan who thought he’d given up on music “Don’t believe everything you read sweet little girl you will hear something from me sooner than you think.” A year has gone by with no new album.
Some have taken to calling Bieber’s yet-to-be-titled fifth album JB5. Maybe JB5 or new singles from it will be released shortly. If not, Bieber might have an album on his hands which becomes legendary because of the delays surrounding it.
If this is the case, JB5 would have predecessors. Although Bieber has little in common musically with Ozzy Osbourne, both are consummate entertainers who know how to insert their personal lives into the spotlight. NME says Osbourne’s band, Black Sabbath, took 18 years to release their 13th album, the appropriately-titled 13. Black Sabbath may have proved 13 is an unlucky number.
A comparison between Bieber and Osbourne might seem ridiculous. That’s because it would be ridiculous. Bieber and Osbourne are apparently aware of that fact. MTV News reports the two appeared in a comedic Super Bowl advertisement together. In the commercial, Osbourne mocks Bieber’s appearance and claims he’s never heard of the pop singer.
Bieber certainly has a long way – specifically 14 years – to go before JB5 is as delayed as Black Sabbath’s 13. Although 13 had an incredibly long incubation period, fans generally enjoyed it. Hopefully, JB5 will also be worth the wait.
