Did Ariana Grande Just Shade The Rapper Who Accused Her of Copying ‘7 Rings’ On Her New Live Album?
It is the holiday season and according to fans, it looks like pop superstar Ariana Grande may be in the spirit of pettiness. The Arianators are convinced that Grande shaded rapper Princess Nokia on her newly-released live album.
Ariana Grande, Princess Nokia, and the ‘7 Rings’ claim
Grande’s release of “7 Rings” was not one without controversy. On social media, many people accused her of appropriating trap music, particularly 2 Chainz. This didn’t stop the song from being a worldwide smash and her second No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100. She even put 2 Chainz on a remix to the song and he said in an interview Grande thought it was clear she was paying homage to him.
However, claims from two other rappers, Soulja Boy and Princess Nokia, didn’t go over as well. Many dismissed Soulja Boy’s claims that “7 Rings” copied his music, and while a lot of people co-signed her statements, it was the general assumption that “7 Rings” did not sound like Princess Nokia’s “Mine. “Nokia posted a video on social media listening to “7 Rings,” comparing it to her song, “Mine.”
“Does that sound familiar to you? ’Cause that sound really familiar to me,” continuing, “Ain’t that the lil song I made about brown women and their hair? Hmmm… sounds about white,” she said in the video, which she immediately deleted from Twitter.
