Did Jon and Kate Gosselin’s Son, Collin, Really Get Expelled From School?

It’s been awhile since we’ve seen them on television, but fans of reality TV are well-aware of the Gosselin family. In the early 2000s, we remember when Jon & Kate Plus 8 first hit TLC, and Jon and Kate Gosselin became famous for having a set of sextuplets followed by twins. We loved seeing their family dynamics unfold — but the show came to a screeching halt when Jon and Kate battled in a bitter divorce.

Since then, a ton has happened, like Collin Gosselin was sent away to a school for “special needs” and Jon has since gotten custody of him. The family is more divided than ever, and fans are still wondering what went on with their “troubled” son. Here’s the truth about whether he ever got expelled from school.

Kate has spoken about Collin’s behavioral issues in the past

Had a good weekend visit with Collin at home!

We’ve been hearing about Collin’s alleged behavioral struggles for years thanks to Kate continuing the series under the name Kate Plus 8. In Touch Weekly reminds us back in 2015, she noted in an episode that Collin was having “educational and social challenges” that required specialized help. Around the same time, Kate also started coming forward with Collin’s alleged “special needs.” As she told People, “This has been a struggle we’ve had for a very long time, and it’s one I’ve dealt with on my own. I’ve felt very alone in this.”

She didn’t just discuss Collin’s behavior on the air, either. In Kate’s early memoir released in 2010, I Just Want You to Know, she included a letter to each of her eight children — and Collin’s was particularly startling. Us Weekly reports she wrote, “At two and a half, you began testing and trying my parenting at every chance. I called Daddy at work many days crying because you would not obey.” She continued by writing that she knew the divorce was painful for him, but she would continue doing what she thought was best for the family. “You continue to be determined to do what you want to do, and I continue to try to rein you in.”

Reports claim that yes, Collin was expelled from school

Between what Kate said during interviews and what she wrote in her book, fans were wondering just how bad the situation with Collin really was. And according to Radar Online, both Alexis and Collin, two of the sextuplets, were expelled from school for bad behavior.

The publication notes Kate first tried to deny their expulsion, but reports found that one of the expelled Gosselin kids attempted to cause physical harm to one of the adults at their school twice. Not only that, but allegedly Collin and Alexis were also “abusive” to other children attending the school. The school administrators then allegedly felt that they had no choice but to remove the children from the facility. As a source told Radar Online, “Both Jon and Kate were sent a letter from the head of school explaining that despite their best efforts, staff had reached a point at which they had to request the children enroll in another program.”

Jon now has custody of Collin and claims Kate has had ‘zero’ contact

It’s well-documented that Kate enrolled Collin in an away-from-home program for kids with special needs when he was just 12, as she discussed how difficult it was for her and the rest of the kids with People. As she said back in 2016, “We miss him so much, so it’s been hard because there is a huge hole in our family without him here. But it comforts us to know he’s where he needs to be right now, and I can feel good about that.”

Jon has since totally contradicted what Kate said at the time, however. In a more recent court battle, he won custody of Collin since Kate failed to show up to court — and he’s also stated that Collin does not have any “special needs” at all. Not only that, but Jon recently posted photos of time spent with Collin at the Philadelphia Auto Show on Instagram. In the comment section of the photo, Hollywood Life notes when a fan questioned how often Kate sees Collin, Jon commented back, “ZERO.” Collin definitely seems happy while spending time with his father and sister, Hannah, who also lives with Jon full-time, too. Hopefully it’s all up from here for the Gosselins.
