It’s baby mania in the British Royal Family. Duchess Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are welcoming their first child in late April or May of 2019. Baby Sussex will join his or her cousins, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Since the Duchess of Sussex is gearing up for the arrival of her little one, her good friends threw her a lavish baby shower during a secret girls trip to New York City. With an A-list guest list– and a luxury hotel penthouse as the setting, we wondered if Duchess Kate Middleton had her own girly baby shower.
Did Kate Middleton have a baby shower when she was pregnant with any of her children?
Unlike Meghan Markle, Kate Middleton has never had a baby shower. She didn’t even have a celebration when she was pregnant with her first child, Prince George. The British Royal Family frowns upon baby showers
As a British woman –Kate Middleton probably didn’t care one way or another about having a baby shower. However, they are also seen as a bit “unsavory” by the Brtish royal family. Royal expert Victoria Arbiter explaine to The Sun. “A lavish baby shower would be seen as highly inappropriate. There’s nothing they can’t go out and buy themselves.”
Why was Meghan Markle allowed to have a baby shower?
Technically, Markle did not break any rules with her NYC baby shower. Her friends threw her the lovely soiree back in the States where showers are super normal, and the royal family incurred none of the expenses. As Harper’s Bazaar explained, “It doesn’t break any royal tradition, and the Queen’s permission is definitely not needed.” However, we’re sure Markle ran the idea by Queen Elizabeth II before giving her bestie Jessica Mulroney the OK to begin planning.
Inside Meghan Markle’s stunning NYC baby shower
Meghan Markle’s baby shower had about fifteen guests in attendance including Mulroney, Gayle King, Serena Williams, and Amal Clooney. According to Entertainment Tonight, French chef, Jean-Georges Vongerichten –who is The Mark’s world-renowned chef prepared the food for the shower. Though we don’t know exactly was on the menu, some of Vongerichten’s signature dishes are molten chocolate cake and ginger fried rice. For sweets, both sugar cookies and cotton candy were on hand. Apparently the shower cost Markle’s friends $200,000.
Since Markle isn’t into traditional baby shower games, her guests arranged flowers instead. A cart full of blue and pink hydrangeas was seen being rolled into the hotel ahead of the shower. An insider told BAZAAR.com,
The trip is a lovely chance to catch up with friends and spend time in a city she loves. This will be the last time a lot of them will see Meg until after the baby is born so it’s nice to share precious moments. It’s been a relaxing visit. Nothing beats face time with your friends. Meg will be flying home refreshed and relaxed-and with a lot of new baby clothes.
