When did Prince William meet Kate Middleton?

Kate Middleton was born into an upper-middle-class family in 1982. Throughout her childhood and young adult years, Middleton attended the very best schools around, along with her brother and sister.

Her parents, Michael and Carole Middleton, likely encouraged their daughter to attend college so that she could work with them on their party supply business, Party Pieces. Since her family had considerable wealth, accumulated mainly through Michael Middleton’s trust funds, she could have attended any college that she wished, and there were certainly plenty of posh schools to choose from.

Middleton might have made up her mind when she met Prince William around the year 2001. The young prince was also just beginning his university career and had settled on the prestigious University of St. Andrews. His serious demeanor and sharp mind meant that he was well-suited to higher learning, and the relatively private campus at the University of St. Andrews meant that Prince William could pursue his studies in peace. Still, his world was turned upside down when he met Kate Middleton in 2001.

Did Kate Middleton switch schools just to date Prince William?

A recent report has revealed that while Kate Middleton and Prince William’s relationship blossomed into love at St. Andrews, they actually met sometime prior to that. The report states that Middleton had met Prince William through some mutual friends while she was still in high school and that the young prince made such an impression on her that she decided to alter her decision of which college to attend.

The source claims that Middleton was initially planning on enrolling in the University of Edinburgh but that at some point around the time she crossed paths with Prince William, she decided to enroll in University of St. Andrews instead.

What is definitely true is that Prince William and Kate Middleton were just friends for some time before dating. Supposedly, the tipping point for Prince William was when he witnessed Middleton strut her stuff down a fashion show runway, wearing a sheer dress with little underneath.

Their relationship has grown and evolved

Like any relationship, Prince William and Kate Middleton’s love story has had ups and downs. They dated for a few years in the early 2000s before briefly breaking up in 2007, after the two had graduated the University of St. Andrews.

Reportedly, the pressures of the spotlight were becoming difficult for Middleton to deal with, as well as the usual problems of maintaining a long-distance relationship. Prince William had started to get more involved with his royal duties as well as committing to the Royal Military Academy.

Obviously, the pair was able to work out their differences. Ultimately, they decided to fight for their relationship and in 2010, they got engaged. Their royal wedding in 2011 was the televised event of the year, with thousands of viewers tuning in to watch the young couple tie the knot.

These days, Prince William and Kate Middleton are the loving parents of three children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. As they get even closer to one day ruling the UK, they will have to lean on each other more than ever.
