Did Lamar Odom Just Shade Khloé Kardashian in This Instagram Post?
In case you haven’t heard, Lamar Odom has a new lady in his life. He’s dating fitness trainer Sabrina Parr, and he’s been posting about her on social media for days now. But one of his latest posts has fans talking — and not in a good way.
People are saying that the former NBA star threw shade by comparing his new girlfriend to his ex-wife Khloé Kardashian. Here’s what happened, as well as Odom’s response to the critics.
Lamar Odom’s Instagram photo of his new girlfriend is causing concerns
On Aug. 3, Odom posted a photo of Parr working out, alongside a lengthy caption. Quoting Malcolm X, he wrote, “It’s just like when you’ve got some coffee that’s too black, which means it’s too strong, what do you do? You integrate it with cream…”
He continued, “But if you pour too much cream in it, you won’t even know you ever had coffee. It used to be hot, it becomes cool. It used to be strong, it becomes weak. It used to wake you up, now it puts you to sleep.”
Fans immediately slammed the post
Some people believed that the caption included racial undertones and accused him of shading his ex-wife. “I am REALLY DISAPPOINTED in you Lamar,” one person wrote. “You go from talking about love and good vibes to [throwing] shade towards the woman who saved your life????” Another added, “Imagine if a white person said something like this lol.”
However, some fans jumped to Odom’s defense. One person wrote that the caption is “a speech about a black man holding himself up and really seeing the difference between what he used to believe and what he now knows to be true.” They continued, “It’s called self-reflection and being comfortable in his skin now and having a beautiful woman to thank for that.”
Odom clapped back at people accusing him of shading Kardashian
Just hours after the post went up, Odom shared an Instagram post shutting down the critics. He wrote that the post “isn’t against anyone,” including Kardashian, and urged fans not to twist his words.
“I’m a bit disappointed to read that people are using my words to enforce their own perceptions and assumptions pointing towards things that just are not MY TRUTH OR REALITY,” he wrote. “This post isn’t against anyone including my ex wife that I still respect deeply. I am just PRO love. Can I do that without people being offended? Why does that make you mad? Our black women have been held down for centuries! I am now deciding to send them and my NEW WOMAN a lot of love.”
He continued, “My post goes out to the new leading woman in my life that I’m gonna tell every day how beautiful she is, from the inside out. Thanks [Parr] for teaching me what real self value means. It changed my entire mindset.” He ended the post with a heart and fist emoji.
Odom still has love for Kardashian
In his 2019 memoir, Darkness to Light, the Khloe & Lamar star paid tribute to his relationship with Kardashian, saying that he was once at his “happiest” while they were together.
“For a while, being with her was bliss, and I was the happiest I’ve ever been,” Odom writes in his book. “We were one of the most famous couples in Hollywood, and we made more money together than we had individually.”
Of course, his addictions to sex and drugs would later send the relationship spiraling. But Odom has turned his life around, and he’s hoping that he can mend his relationship with Kardashian and her family.
“Hopefully, me going to public speaking can even bring me closer to the Kardashians and help me rebuild that bridge,” he told TMZ Live in July.
That said, we’re gonna go out on a limb and say his latest post indeed was not shade because that’s certainly no way to get back into Khlo’s good graces.
