Did Mark Ruffalo Actually Spoil ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Without Realizing It?

Mark Ruffalo has a solid reputation for spoiling Marvel movies and, given his epic oops when he live streamed the first 10 minutes of Thor: Ragnarok, it’s not too surprising that the directors of Avengers: Endgame couldn’t take any chances with loose-lipped Ruffalo.

Ruffalo admitted he got a fake script

How do you keep the secrets of the MCU under wraps? By not giving too much away — and that’s exactly what the Russo brothers, who directed Avengers: Endgame, did. Poor old Spider-Man, Tom Holland, didn’t even get a script and it seems that while Ruffalo got one, it was a fake.

Ruffalo told ET at the Endgame premiere: “I got a script, but it was a dummy,” adding, “There were scenes in there that I thought we were shooting that nobody ever shot.”

Russo brothers explained why they kept the cast in the dark

Listen, keeping spoilers under wraps isn’t easy, so the Russo brothers took the extra steps to protect the movie and its stars. Anthony Russo explained: “It’s like doing them a favor, because it’s hard to keep secrets, it’s hard to keep your mouth closed.”

He added: “We spend all day, every day, doing this for like, the past couple years. So it’s hard not to talk about what you spend all your time doing. It’s a little bit of a mercy we give them by not giving them too much information.”

Did Mark Ruffalo accidentally spoil Avengers: Endgame?

Despite having limited information about the plot and getting a dummy script, Ruffalo still managed to leak out a bit of an Avengers: Endgame spoiler. Interestingly, it’s only coming to light now, even though Ruffalo seemed to leak a spoiler during an April interview with E! News.

Ruffalo shared during the interview: “I didn’t even get a whole script for this movie. I don’t now why. The script I did get had dummy scenes in it.”

He then explained how one scene had Steve Rogers/Captain America getting married to Peggy Carter.

Chris Evans, who plays Captain America, stepped in to joke: “Mark’s a real liability. They have to throw Mark off the scent. You have zero cred. You have earned no trust in the Marvel universe. You like leak, like a bodily function.”

He’s not wrong.

Ruffalo had no clue how Endgame would end though

It’s important to note that in addition to not getting a real script, Ruffalo hadn’t yet seen Endgame and didn’t know how it ended. He explained: “I don’t know what’s gonna happen. I like shot five different endings to this movie.”

Though he didn’t entirely spoil the ending, he did seem to be in the neighborhood, as it’s implied that Chris Evans’ character gets married.

One person commented on the YouTube video of the interview: “If Captain America gets married in Endgame then we all need to remember that this was the moment that Mark did it again.”

After the release of Avengers: Endgame, Ruffalo celebrated the fact that he didn’t spoil the movie, tweeting: “Now that #AvengersEndgame is out in the world, you all can finally live without the fear of me spoiling it.”

The video clip he included showed Brie Larson congratulating him for not spoiling the movie.
