Did Matthew McConaughey Just Try to beat Jennifer Aniston’s Instagram Record?
You may have heard that Jennifer Aniston was added to the Guinness Book of World Records on October 16, 2019. When she joined Instagram, she broke the record for the fastest time to reach one million followers—she did it in 5 hours and 16 minutes.
The charming Texan, Matthew McConaughey decided to join Instagram on November 4, 2019, and also quickly gained followers. Let’s see if the actor was able to beat Aniston’s accomplishment, and what he plans to share with his new social media account.
How quickly did Matthew McConaughey hit 1 million followers?
McConaughey put up his first post shortly after joining Instagram. It was a video explanation of what he intends to do with his account.
In less than one day, the video gained more than 940 thousand views, and on the second day there were already 1.8 million. He gained tens of thousands of comments, and 1.1 million people subscribed to the actor’s account.
Sadly, he did not beat Aniston’s record, although it did take less than one day for him to reach 1 million. The Morning Show actress was the third to break the Instagram record in 2019. It was previously held by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle who broke the title in 5 hours and 45 minutes with their @sussexroyal account in April 2019.
What does McConaughey intend to share with his followers?
McConaughey’s video was a little snippet of him and what he would like to do with his account. He started off by saying, “When people come to my page I want them to see me.”
He continued, “This is my first venture with sharing myself and my views with the world, and I’m a little nervous about it.” The actor laughed, “because quite frankly I know I want to have a monologue but I’m not sure if I want the dialogue.”
McConaughey also wants fans to know, “I’m looking forward to sharing who I am with you.” To most women, the actor became a sex symbol in the early 2000s with his roles in The Wedding Planner, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Failure to Launch, Fool’s Gold and Ghosts of Girlfriends Past.
However, after his string of romantic comedies, he did go on to star in more dramatic roles, including Killer Joe and Mud.
Could he be trying to show us a more serious side? He did note in his video, “Let’s have some fun with it though,” so maybe not so serious.

Many celebrities reached out to wish McConaughey a “Happy Birthday,” including The Rock and Jessica Chastain.
