Did Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Just Miss Their Big Chance To Make Amends With Queen Elizabeth?

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry recently revealed in their documentary, Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, that they have been struggling a lot. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex also confirmed rampant rumors that they are not getting along with some members of the royal family.

Many fans are shocked at how candid both Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry were, and there are reasons to believe that Her Majesty is also not enjoying the media attention that came after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s explosive documentary.

However, instead of trying to mend the relationship between themselves and Queen Elizabeth, recent reports are saying that Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry could be severing the ties even more. Recently, they made a decision that lost them valuable facetime with the queen and an opportunity to make amends.

Queen Elizabeth is reportedly not happy with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s documentary

Markle and Prince Harry’s documentary has been compared to Princess Diana’s famous 1995 interview with Panorama, where she talked about her husband’s affair, her mental health struggles, and more newsworthy events that the public never knew about. The queen was allegedly very angry after the release of Princess Diana’s interview, especially since no one in the royal family knew about it beforehand.

The fact that the Sussexes went the same route as Princess Diana — Markle and Prince Harry reportedly did not tell anyone about their documentary — also did not sit well with the queen. According to a source who told The Sun, she most likely was upset because their documentary overshadowed Prince William and Kate Middleton’s important trip to Pakistan as well as Prince Charles’ own documentary.

“To do it to your brother is one thing,” the insider said. “To do it to your father and paymaster is a completely different matter altogether… This is a documentary about his life’s work and it really meant a lot to him. It’s been completely and utterly annihilated, all because these two think they’ve reinvented the wheel.”

Soon after the release of the Sussexes’ documentary, many people noticed that the picture of Markle and Prince Harry that used to be on display at Buckingham Palace was removed. However, it is not actually clear when exactly the photo was taken down and whether it had anything to do with their documentary.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are not joining Queen Elizabeth for Christmas

It recently has also been revealed that Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry will be skipping out on the royal family’s tradition of gathering at Sandringham House for Christmas. This has been a longstanding tradition since 1988 and is reportedly very important to Queen Elizabeth. However, the palace shared that the Sussexes will be celebrating Christmas this year with Markle’s mother instead.

Royal expert Angela Levin believes that this decision has something to do with the stress that they talked about in their documentary. She noted that Markle is already uncomfortable with the royal family and most likely would not want to spend time at a holiday gathering that is full of rules and protocol.

“You can’t eat after the Queen stops eating, you can’t go to bed unless the Queen’s gone to bed,” Levin said. “Everything is absolutely on time. I think if you are tense anyway, it’s quite difficult. I think that Meghan feels very uncomfortable at the moment with the Royal Family.”

Did Meghan Markle and Prince Harry just skip out on a chance to make amends?

Right off the bat, royal fans know the Sussexes have every right to spend time with Markle’s family. But some fans believe that Christmas at Sandringham would have been a nice time to make amends with Queen Elizabeth and other family members, especially after everything that happened this past year.

Royal biographer Ingrid Seward noted: “I think it’s sad they don’t want to be part of the family gathering, particularly now the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are in their dotage.”

At this point, only time will tell if Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry can heal the rift between themselves and Queen Elizabeth or not.
