Did Meghan Markle Read Archie a Book Given to Him by Oprah in Birthday Video? Fans Think So
While we were busy gushing over Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor adorably turning the page while he and his mother, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex read Duck! Rabbit!, eagle-eyed fans were busy taking in every detail of the scene. Among them? A sticker suggesting the book came to Archie from Oprah. Ahead, learn why fans think Archie did indeed receive the book as a gift from Oprah.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry released a video of Archie in honor of his birthday
As a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex previously said in the lead up to Archie’s first birthday on May 6, 2020, the couple did indeed give the public “a rare glimpse” of their now-1-year-old son. In a video filmed by Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, Meghan sat in an armchair with Archie on her lap while she read the sweet children’s book.
The video pulled double duty by not only marking Archie’s first birthday but it encouraged people to donate to the charities, Save the Children and No Kid Hungry, in their initiative #SaveWithStories.
Watch the adorable 3-minute video of Archie and Meghan below. Wait until the end to hear Harry cheer for Archie.
Meghan, Harry, and Archie are among other celebrities who have joined the cause including other big names such as Academy Award-winning actress Kate Winslet, talk show host Jimmy Fallon, and celebrity chef Ina Garten.
Fans spotted a sticker they believe indicates the book came from Oprah
At the beginning of the video, Meghan held up Duck! Rabbit! for the camera before starting story time with Archie. Sleuthing fans noticed an “Archie’s Book Club” sticker on cover. While some members of Royally Obsessed, a fan club Facebook group, thought the sticker may indicate a future book club for the young member of the British royal family — one can only hope! — others were quick to point out Oprah’s been known to give books to her friends’ children complete with personalized stickers.
In April 2019, Oprah told Access Hollywood what she’d give Archie as a gift.
“I have a standard gift that I do for people I really care about … this baby will have enough new books to last a lifetime,” she said referring to Meghan and Harry’s son.
Oprah gifted Mindy Kaling a bookcase filled with books for her daughter
Fans also pointed out that Oprah had given Mindy Kaling a bookcase filled with books when she welcomed her daughter, Katherine.
The actress, producer, comedian, director, and writer shared with USA Today in 2018 that she’d stayed home from work when she got a call that a truck would be arriving at her house with a gift for her daughter from Oprah.
“They arrived with a hand-carved bookcase, prettier than any professional dollhouse you had ever seen that contained a hundred of the classic essential books in children’s literature,” Kaling said.
And here’s the kicker. The books her daughter received had the same stickers as the one’s fans saw on Archie’s book.
“And I held my baby up to it and I said, ‘Did you see what Ms. Winfrey did for you?’ Each book has ‘Katherine’s Book Club’ on it,” Kaling said.
While Oprah nor the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have confirmed or denied Archie did in fact receive the mogul’s “standard gift,” it’s not a stretch considering Kaling’s daughter received a book with the same stickers.
Whether or not Archie’s book is one of many he got from Oprah, it’s certainly a wonderful gift. While sources say we won’t see much of Archie in the future, we can’t help but hope Meghan and Harry release another adorable home video of their son!
