Was Cyrus and Hemsworth’s marriage an attempt to fix their relationship?

Hemsworth and Cyrus had an on-again/off-again relationship, beginning when they met on set of The Last Song in 2009 and started dating, broke up, got engaged in 2012, called off the engagement… and finally made their way back into each others’ lives and hearts again in 2015.

In December 2018, they got married — and fans believed they were in it for the long haul. Sources close to the couple, however, believe that their wedding was really an attempt to make their relationship work.

One insider shared with The Sun: “Liam and Miley love each other a lot, but they’re incredibly different people and at times have struggled to make things work. They had problems for years, a lot of secret break-ups — but everyone thought that the wedding would make things right.”

The source noted, “In the end it seemed to us like the wedding was like a band aid that was trying to stick over the cracks in the relationship. Even the wedding was very much on her terms — in Tennessee with her parents — and not a reflection of them both. They just weren’t right for each other.”

Were Cyrus’ comments about her marriage revealing?

Given their split, it’s interesting to look back on comments Cyrus made during an interview with Elle magazine this summer, in which she called her marriage to Hemsworth “complex” and “modern.”

She shared: “My relationship is unique. And I don’t know that I would ever publicly allow people in there because it’s so complex, and modern, and new that I don’t think we’re in a place where people would get it.”

She continued, “I mean, do people really think that I’m at home in a f**king apron cooking dinner? I’m in a hetero relationship, but I still am very sexually attracted to women.”

The singer’s perspective on being a wife is also interesting, as she shared: “People become vegetarian for health reasons, but bacon is still f**king good, and I know that I made a partner decision. This is the person I feel has my back the most. I definitely don’t fit into a stereotypical wife role. I don’t even like that word.”

Hemsworth responded to the breakup news

Cyrus has been on vacation, where she was spotted kissing Kaitlynn Carter, and has been posting highlights of her trip on Instagram.

Hemsworth also took to Instagram, sharing a sunset photo, and addressed the split, noting: “Hi all. Just a quick note to say that Miley and I have recently separated and I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward.”

He added: “This is a private matter and I have not made, nor will I be making, any comments to any journalists or media outlets. Any reported quotes attributed to me are false. Peace and Love.”
