Did Miley Cyrus Shade Liam Hemsworth in ‘Don’t Call Me Angel’?

Miley Cyrus is back with new music, guys. (!!!) She recently teamed up with Ariana Grande and Lana Del Rey for a song called “Don’t Call Me Angel,” which is from the upcoming Charlie’s Angels reboot that hits theaters on Nov. 15. And while it’s basically a fun party anthem, it might also include some shade toward Cyrus’ ex, Liam Hemsworth.

Why people think Cyrus shaded Hemsworth

It has to do with these lyrics:

“Don’t call me angel when I’m a mess / Don’t call me angel when I get undressed / You know I, I don’t like that, boy / Uh, I make my money, and I write the checks / So say my name with a little respect.”

After the song’s release, fans speculated that Cyrus dissed Hemsworth, who filed for divorce on Aug. 21. The move came less than two weeks after Cyrus’ representative confirmed that the two had separated.

Some fans pointed to the fact that Hemsworth used to call the “Wrecking Ball” singer his angel. For example, he would repeatedly refer to Cyrus as an angel on Instagram.

“My little angel and I,” he captioned a 2017 photo of them.

On another occasion, he called Cyrus his “Christmas angel.”

Many fans took to Twitter to share their feelings on the matter, with one person writing, “Miley and Liam separated because he calls her angel all the damn time #DontCallmeAngel.”

“Liam Hemsworth used to call Miley Cyrus his “little angel”. OMG #DontCallmeAngel,” another added.

It’s not the first time this has happened

Fans also believe that Cyrus shaded her estranged lover in a song called “Slide Away,” which came out on Aug. 16. They referenced lyrics like this one where Cyrus says, “Move on; we’re not 17 / I’m not who I used to be.”

Those lyrics appear to be a nod at their dating history, as the two began dating as teenagers after meeting on the set of their 2009 film, The Last Song.

The song came out just days after Cyrus’ representative confirmed to People magazine that Hemsworth and the singer had separated after seven months of marriage. (They dated off and on for about a decade before they tied the knot in December of 2018.)

“Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time,” Cyrus’ representative said in the statement. “Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers.”

The Blast later reported on Aug. 30 that the two are already close to finalizing a divorce settlement. It should be finalized by Halloween.

Now, they’re moving on

Cyrus has since moved on to Brody Jenner’s ex, Kaitlynn Carter. The two first sparked rumors in mid-August after they were seen kissing on an Italian getaway. And while sources initially downplayed their relationship, insiders have since claimed that they’re getting pretty serious. In fact, they reportedly even live together now.

For his part, Hemsworth has been enjoying some personal time. He recently spent some time in Australia, where he reportedly kicked back on the beach.

He also just had a movie come out called Killerman. Hemsworth plays Moe, a money launderer who gets amnesia and has to figure out why he has loads of drugs and cash. The film hit theaters on Aug. 30.
