Did Paris Hilton Return Her Engagement Ring? Here’s What We Know
Things are officially a wrap between Paris Hilton and her model/actor ex-fiance, Chris Zylka. The stunning blonde couple first connected in early 2017, and were quickly swept up in a magical romantic whirlwind. Things seemed so right between the couple that Zylka popped the question on New Year’s Eve in 2017, presenting the heiress and socialite with a massive $2 million ring.
At the time, The Simple Life alum gushed to People, “The ring was so gorgeous and sparkling. I was shaking as I put it on. It is the most beautiful ring that I have ever seen!” Jeweler Michael Greene of Greene & Co designed the ring for the couple. He told The Knot, “The center stone is a little bit over 20 carats… and the stones around the ring are just under 2 carats. It’s a platinum, split-shank ring with a halo around the center stone.” The ring is extremely unique and it took Greene over four months to craft. Unfortunately, the ring has outlasted the relationship. Hilton and The Leftovers actor have officially gone their separate ways, so who gets custody of the ring?
Moving too fast
Though the couple had been together for nearly two years, things were no longer working between the pair. An insider close to Hilton told People, “They broke up a few weeks ago. The relationship moved very fast, and she realized it wasn’t right for her.” Another source explained to JustJared that things between the couple had been feeling “off-kilter” in the past few months.
Neither Zylka nor Hilton have publically commented on their split, but Hilton did post a photo of herself on Instagram with the caption, “What made her strong was despite the million things that hurt her. She spoke of nothing but happiness.”
Who gets the engagement ring?
The hotel heiress is allegedly the person who called off the engagement, and under California law, if she was the one who broke things off, she would need to return it. Obviously, since it’s worth more than what most people make in a lifetime, Zylka wants it back.
The pair have not seen each other since the split, and though Zylka has not outright asked Hilton for the ring, he’s itching to have it back in his possession. However, it looks like Hilton isn’t budging, and we can’t say we blame her. Though we don’t know why she decided that her relationship was unsalvagable, we do know that Zylka didn’t pay $2 million out of pocket for the massive rock.
According to TMZ, the socialite has had a long working relationship with Greene & Co, so Zylka was given a major discount when he was hunting for engagement rings. It also gave the jewelry company a ton of publicity. We’re not sure if Hilton will ever decide to give the ring back, but for now, we do know that she is focused on her personal brand and business ventures.
