Meghan and Harry are no longer working royals

At the beginning of 2020, Meghan and Harry announced that they wanted to carve out a different life for themselves and become more financially independent. After meeting with the queen, they came to an agreement that the Sussexes would no longer represent the crown.

“Following many months of conversations and more recent discussions, I am pleased that together we have found a constructive and supportive way forward for my grandson and his family,” Queen Elizabeth II said in a  statement.

“Harry, Meghan, and Archie will always be much loved members of my family,” she continued. “I recognise the challenges they have experienced as a result of intense scrutiny over the last two years and support their wish for a more independent life.”

Did Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have to ask for permission?

When Meghan and Harry were senior members of the royal family, much of what they did had to be approved. Now, that they no longer are under the same restraints, they have a little more leeway in what they can do.

Yesterday, it was announced that the Sussexes would be doing an interview with Oprah.

“It’s an interview you won’t want to miss,” a post on Oprah Magazine’s Instagram page read. “@oprah will be sitting down with Prince Harry and Meghan for an intimate conversation for an exclusive primetime special. First, Lady O will speak with Meghan to discuss everything from stepping into life as a Royal, marriage, motherhood, philanthropic work to how she’s handling life under intense public pressure.”

Prince Harry is also set to join in on the interview.

“Later, the two will be joined by Prince Harry as they speak about their move to the United States and their future hopes and dreams for their expanding family,” the post continued.

In the past, the queen would have had to approve any interviews that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex did but now they are under no such contract.
