Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are currently on their tour of southern Africa. While they might be a world away from Prince William and Kate Middleton right now, that has not stopped onlookers from digging up tension between the Sussexes and the Cambridges.
Recently, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle did something that has been interpreted as shading Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Rumors claim Prince Harry and Prince William are feuding
Prince Harry and Prince William used to be very close, but these days, there are constant reports of the two brothers growing apart.
Rumor has it this feud started when Prince Harry began dating Meghan Markle. Reportedly, Prince William advised his brother to not rush into things with Markle, though Prince Harry took it the wrong way and saw it as Prince William not being supportive of his relationship.
According to royal expert Katie Nicholl, who told The Sun: “Harry supported William from the outset of his relationship with Kate and he felt very let down that he wasn’t getting his brother’s full 100 percent support with the relationship with Meghan.”
Since then, “the dynamic changed, that there was a shift and it was largely down to Harry resenting his brother,” Nicholl said.
Prince William and Kate Middleton might have shaded Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
In August 2019, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex got hit with harsh criticism for flying private jets four times in 11 days. The couple was known for being climate change activists, so the behavior did not sit well with a lot of people, who called them “hypocrites.”
Not long after, Prince William and Kate Middleton were spotted flying commercial on a budget airline. Many onlookers believe that the move was meant to be shade directed at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle by showing that even the future king and queen do not need fancy private jets to travel.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could be slamming the Cambridges on their Africa tour
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently landed in South Africa to begin their royal tour of southern Africa. The couple flew commercial, and they seem to also be quietly slamming Prince William and Kate Middleton with their upcoming engagements.
A source told Vanity Fair this tour is all about work for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. “This isn’t a holiday and they don’t want it to look like one,” the insider said. “This has been months in the planning and a lot of hard work has gone into the schedule. Their Royal Highnesses want to do some serious work on the ground, particularly at a community level.”
In the past, Prince William and Kate Middleton have been criticized for lacking work ethics. Before Middleton married into the royal family, Queen Elizabeth reportedly raised concerns about the fact that she did not have much of a full time job or career goals. Nor did she get involved in charity work. Rather, Middleton was mostly seen vacationing around Europe and going to clubs in London. Even as the Duchess of Cambridge, some onlookers still have issues with how little work she does compared to much older royal family members like Queen Elizabeth and Princess Anne.
Prince William also receives criticism
Prince William also has not escape criticism either. When he was a helicopter pilot for the Royal Air Force in 2017, he was accused of using this work to get out of royal duties. Since he only worked part time and flew just 100 hours in a few months, he was called “lazy.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s emphasis on work during their Africa tour could be a way for them to gain more popularity over the Cambridges. It’s well known that Markle has impressive work ethics, so it is not too surprising that the couple is trying to highlight their strong points in order to look a little better amidst the recent PR disaster.
