Did Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Just Take PDA to the Next Level?
Duchess Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have quite the love story. They have defied royal tradition and gone against the grain of celebrity romances to carve out a special place for their love and their marriage in the midst of the constant chaos of the world. From the moment the pair went public in the fall of 2016, it was clear that they were hot for each other. Though they have a ton of things in common including living in the limelight and their passion for helping others, they are also super touchy-feely when it comes to displaying their affection for one another.
In almost any other relationship this wouldn’t be an issue. However, the British royal family has some rather strict ideas about PDA. Looking back, you can probably never think of a time when Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip were making googly eyes at one another. Also, Prince Harry’s parents, the late Princess Diana, and Prince Charles didn’t exactly have a loving relationship, so they didn’t struggle to keep their hands to themselves.
Since Prince Harry’s older brother, Prince William, will be the King of England one day, he and his wife, Duchess Kate Middleton are more careful to keep their hands to themselves even though they do slip up from time to time. However, it’s Prince Harry and Markle who can’t seem to stop their love fest in public, even when it means ignoring royal traditions and earning the wrath of the queen and Kensington Palace.
A grandmother’s warning
Like everyone else in the royal family, Queen Elizabeth welcomed Duchess Meghan Markle with open arms. The queen was impressed by Markle’s robust career and the fact that the former actress wasn’t rattled by intense public pressure. However, she was disturbed by one thing about Prince Harry and his new love’s relationship. Being extremely affectionate is a major taboo in the royal family.
An insider revealed to Women’s Day, “Being affectionate just comes naturally to Harry and Meghan, but it’s totally against royal protocol. The Queen isn’t thrilled about it at all, and word is she summoned Harry to the palace to remind him what’s expected of a royal. All the hand-holding just isn’t the royal way at all.”
In the weeks leading up to their wedding, the prince and Markle seemed to heed the queen’s advice, but after they wed in May of 2018, all bets were off. Now that Markle is pregnant with the couple’s first child the couple’s PDA has gone into overdrive.
A pat on the bottom
Markle and Prince Harry are currently at the tail end of their first royal tour together. The tour began with the news of Markle’s pregnancy, so there has been a ton of handholding between the couple as they bask in their happiness. However, as the royal parents-to-be departed Australia for New Zealand on Oct. 28, photographers caught the prince give his wife a tap on her butt.
The pair were entering their aircraft after saying goodbye to the folks of Australia who had welcomed them during the first half of their 16-day royal tour. It was a seemingly innocent pat, but it certainly made fans of the royal family blush. We love it.
From the way the Duke and Duchess of Sussex act around another, we expect that the royal couple’s forthcoming bundle of joy, which is set to be making his or her debut in the Spring of 2019 will be the first of many.
