‘Dirty John’ Season 2 Is Coming — Here’s What Fans of the Show Can Expect
Dirty John is returning for Season 2. Well, it is and it isn’t.
After the success of Season 1 with Connie Britton (learn her net worth here) as Debra Newell, a successful interior designer based in Southern California, who became the target of John Meehan (Eric Bana), a lifelong con man, Dirty John is returning for a second season. Based on the real story of Newell, popularized by Los Angeles Times articles and a podcast of the same name, Season 2 won’t feature more on Meehan or Newell.
Season 2 of ‘Dirty John’ will feature a new cast
As we said, don’t expect to see American Horror Story alum Britton (and her great hair) or Bana in Season 2. The return of the show will feature an entirely new cast and a fresh storyline, according to Variety.
Called Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story, Amanda Peet and Christian Slater will be the stars of Season 2. Based on another true story, the crimes of Betty Broderick, the second installment in the series will follow a marriage that ended in a double homicide. Broderick killed her ex-husband and his second wife in 1989, according to Refinery29.
Peet is slated to play the title character of Betty Broderick, a Southern California wife and mother married to her Dan (Slater), her college boyfriend. Broderick supported her husband while he went to medical and law school.
Dan found success in pursuing a law career. Their lives were finally good until Broderick’s husband hired a young woman by the name of Linda Kolkena, to work for him as his legal assistant. According to The Oprah Magazine, the part of Linda has not been cast yet.
Broderick began suspecting her husband of having an affair with the two eventually divorcing and Dan marrying his legal assistant, whom he was, in fact, having an affair with although both denied the allegations.
Show will be on a new network
Another change for Season 2 of the series is that the show’s switching networks. Instead of airing on Bravo, the next season will air on USA Network. So, those who have cable are in luck.
When will Season 2 premiere?
Unfortunately, Season 2 of Dirty John doesn’t have a premiere date at this time but we do know it’s in production.
Who is producing and directing?
“The first season of Dirty John was a story of twisted love and coercive control—and both these insidious elements are also present in and integral to the story of Betty Broderick, whom I have wanted to write about since I became a writer,” Alexandra Cunningham, the series creator said in a statement.
Cunningham will serve as executive producer on Season 2 with Jessica Rhoades, Britton, Atlas Entertainment and Los Angeles Times Studios. Maggie Kiley will lead the directing team and co-executive produce the series and direct the premiere, finale, and two additional episodes.
Cunningham will also make her debut as a director in Season 2.
