Disgraced ‘Counting On’ star Josh Duggar’s Legal Trouble Just Went From Bad to Worse

Josh Duggar’s legal woes just got a whole lot worse. The disgraced Counting On star narrowly escaped arrest after failing to appear in court over charges of real estate fraud. Josh apparently had no idea that he was actually supposed to go to court, which resulted in a contempt citation. So how did Josh, of all the people, avoid getting arrested?

Josh gets hit with a citation

Josh’s close brush with the law had nothing to do with the alleged raid on his business by the Department of Homeland Security. It was also not related to his previous molestation charges that led to the cancellation of 19 Kids and Counting.

Instead, Josh Duggar was scheduled to appear in court to answer for real estate fraud. As Counting On fans may recall, Josh was accused of what amounts to land left. Little did Josh know, a person is supposed to show up to court when they are summoned.

When Josh failed to appear before a judge, he was slapped with a citation for contempt. According to The Hollywood Gossip, the judge also warned the reality star that he would be hit with a “body attachment” if he failed to show up in court by Tuesday evening.

Josh reportedly made the second deadline, but only by a few minutes. Although Josh had all day to appear in court, he showed up 17 minutes before the judge officially issued an arrest warrant — talk about cutting it close.

Inside Josh Duggar’s latest lawsuit

Josh is facing charges of real estate fraud for allegedly trying to sell land that somebody else already owns.

Carl Echols claims that he purchased a 5-acre parcel of land in 2006 for only $17,500. The land is located in the countryside in Arkansas, which is why it went for such a low price.

Echols says that his cousin, Edward Lewis, sold him the tract of land, which is where things get a bit dicey.

The issue at hand is that Lewis apparently forgot that he sold the land to his cousin. He turned around and sold the same piece of acreage to Josh Duggar, but this time he only charged $1,000 for all five acres.

Although Lewis is clearly in the wrong here, Echols claims that Josh should have looked into the matter before buying the land for a grand. A little digging would have turned up the previous bill of sale, which would have listed Echols as the legal owner.

Josh welcomes new baby

There is no telling what will happen in the court case, but there is a chance it could be settled out of court. Either way, Josh Duggar and his wife, Anna, are currently celebrating the addition of another child to their large family.

This past Thanksgiving, the couple announced that Anna had given birth to a healthy daughter, Maryella Hope. Anna did not suffer any complications giving birth to her sixth child.

“On Thanksgiving eve our hearts are overflowing with joy and gratefulness for the arrival of our sixth child! Maryella Hope arrived this morning at 9:12am. 8 pounds and 2 ounces, 20 inches long,” the couple shared.

The two, of course, have a long way to go if they want to catch up to his parents, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, who have a whopping 19 children.

Anna, meanwhile, decided to stick with Josh Duggar despite all of his scandalous behavior. Shortly after the molestation charges came to light, Josh admitted that he had cheated on his wife with multiple women (though he only came clean following the Ashley Madison hack).

Is Jim Bob avoiding Josh Duggar?

In light of everything that has happened in recent months, it appears as though Jim Bob and Josh might be avoiding each other.

During a recent family trip to Branson’s Silver Dollar City, eyewitnesses claim that Jim Bob made a visible effort to stay away from Josh Duggar and his family.

“They seemed like they were trying to distance themselves,” a source stated. “We saw Jana off with a female friend, Josh and Anna were by themselves watching their kids go on rides, and then Jim Bob and Michelle were on their own with a little one too.”

The insider added that Josh and Ana stuck with their children for most of the trip and did not socialize much with the rest of the Duggars. Josh also appeared to be spacing out and looked like he had a lot on his mind.

Given the reported raid on his business and his legal troubles, there is little doubt what Josh Duggar may have been thinking about. Unfortunately, he has yet to comment on the lawsuit, so we will have to wait and see how things shake out.
