Disney Just Added All of These Upcoming Fox Films to Its 2019 Release Schedule

If you’re not in the loop when it comes to the inner workings of the entertainment business, this might come as news to you: Disney now owns Fox. As of 2019, the deal has gone through, and all of the properties belonging to Fox and its affiliate networks belong to the Walt Disney Company. Trust us, this is big — it’s going to have an affect on a lot more than just the MCU. Here’s a look at the upcoming Fox titles that are now a part of the official Disney slate.

Tolkien — May 10, 2019

This Fox Searchlight film is, you might assume, a biography about the life of Lord of the Rings author J.R.R. Tolkien. It stars Nicholas Hoult as the famed writer and Lily Collins as his love interest, Edith Bratt.

Dark Phoenix — June 7, 2019

Fox had ownership over all things X-Men (including the term “mutant”), which was kind of a problem when it came to making Marvel movies. The X-Men saga continues with Dark Phoenix, which brings back Sophie Turner as Jean Grey. Others, such as Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique, will also return, while Jessica Chastain joins the cast in an unnamed role.

Stuber — July 12, 2019

This action comedy features an exciting and delightful cast. The title comes from Kumail Nanjiani’s character, Stu, who is an Uber driver forced to deal with a very difficult (and dangerous) customer, Vic (Dave Bautista). Betty Gilpin and Karen Gillan also star.

The Art of Racing in the Rain — August 9, 2019

Though it was technically purchased by Disney, the company is choosing to release this dramatic book adaptation under 20th Century Fox. The movie, which shows the life of a race car driver from his dog’s perspective, stars Milo Ventimiglia and Amanda Seyfried. Kevin Costner voices the canine, Enzo.

Ready or Not — August 23, 2019

Fox Searchlight is behind Ready or Not, an upcoming thriller about a bride whose wedding night goes very wrong. The movie stars Samara Weaving, Andie MacDowell, and Adam Brody.

Ad Astra — Sept. 20, 2019

Brad Pitt is known for being very discerning with his film choices over the last few years, so if you’re into sci-fi, this is definitely one you’re going to want to catch. Pitt stars as an engineer who works to find out why his astronaut father (Tommy Lee Jones) disappeared on a mission to Neptune.

The Woman in the Window — Oct. 4, 2019

This mystery drama has “Oscar” written all over it. Starring Amy Adams as an agoraphobic psychologist, The Woman in the Window also features performances by Julianne Moore, Gary Oldman, and Brian Tyree Henry.

Ford v. Ferrari — Nov. 15, 2019

Judging by the title, this looks like a film that history buffs and motorheads will enjoy. Christian Bale, Matt Damon, and Jon Bernthal star in this story about a team that sets out to make the fastest Ford of the time: the GT40 Mk II.

Spies in Disguise — Dec. 25, 2019

With its acquisition of Fox, Disney Animation (already a dominant player in the game) is getting even more content to distribute. Spies in Disguise is, somewhat surprisingly, Disney’s holiday release of choice, and features the voices of Will Smith, Tom Holland, and Rashida Jones.
