A new, original version of ‘Home Alone’ is coming to Disney’s streaming platform

Christmas came early for fans of Home Alone — the classic holiday movie is getting a reboot on Disney’s streaming platform, Disney+. This is not the first time the company rebooted one of their classic movies specifically for this platform, as a live-action adaptation of Lady and the Tramp premiered on Disney+ at its launch date.

Disney already announced some cast members in this upcoming film. Jojo Rabbit Actor, Archie Yates, stars as the lead role of this film. Additionally, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’s Ellie Kemper and Catastrophe’s Rob Delaney play other lead roles in this reboot. Although not much is known about the plot of this new film, it will presumably differ slightly from the 1990 release.

Archie Yates, Ellie Kemper, and Rob Delaney will star in this ‘Home Alone’ reboot

Not much is known about the plot of this upcoming movie. However, this film will differ from the original Home Alone and even star a character other than the clever and creative Kevin McCallister.

According to Variety, “Sources say Yates will not be playing the iconic Kevin McCallister, but a new character in a similar premise to the original franchise… Though originally thought to be Yates’ parents, sources now say Kemper and Delaney will be playing someone else in the film, possibly another couple not related to Yates.”

Some Twitter users shared they didn’t want another Home Alone movie. One Twitter user said, “not that this cast isn’t great, but honestly, we got like 3 Home Alones already. I just want y’all to put the money and energy into original content, please.”

Some fans raced to Twitter, sharing their thought with Disney about this reboot

Once news broke of another Home Alone movie, fans of the original Kevin McCallister weren’t happy. Some took to social media, sharing their anger with Disney and even causing the cast list to become a “Twitter Moment” on the social media platform.

“This should be banned and scrapped. Never to come up again. Home Alone 1/2 are movies that should never be rebooted. Ever,” one Twitter user said of the upcoming Disney+ special.

“Nothing against these actors and the crew behind this film but nobody asked for a Home Alone reboot!! Instead of attempting to remake already great films, people should be creating and telling new stories! At this rate, there will be no unique films to watch anymore,” wrote another Twitter user.

Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York are both available for streaming on Disney+. To learn more about this recently-released platform and to subscribe, visit their website.
